Mew's biggest problem has simply been that they've been called, well... Mew. Maybe they realized this after the fact and have been striving to make up for it since, because following from the explosive brilliance of Frengers, Mew have threatened to become one of indie rock's most breathtakingly refreshing and innovative bands to ever press a record. While it's been almost four years since their last attempt, here on No More Stories Are Told, I'm Sorry, They Washed Away this Danish collective clearly haven't lost any of their steam, following through with a knockout punch of devastating beauty. With its rapturous mix of artfully composed progressive rock swirling amongst a thicket of richly textured shoegaze and dreampop inspired melodies, Mew have managed to redefine the musical landscape of 2009 with a single magisterial sweep. Drawing on Jonas Bjerre's delicately misty vocals and a haze of shimmering guitar lines, songs like the tension-racked rock out of "Repeater Beater" and the stunningly evocative "Cartoons and Macreme Wounds" never lose sight of Mew's ability to bring together both subtlety and intensity with immaculate ease. Did I mention that "Sometimes Life Isn't Easy" may just be most uplifting and heartfelt song ever written? For anyone who ever thought Minus The Bear had the monopoly on intricate but soulful indie rock, Mew have got a thing or two to say - and it's about time to sit up and listen. 4 Bumps | Bump

An excellent atmosphere. Though there are moments that slide off cue, Mew creates another epic beauty and some songs, like "Repeater beater", that may participate in the best of 2009. 1 Bumps | Bump

Mew have crafted yet another glorious album. They weren't aiming to do ATGHK all over again and I'm so glad they didn't. This is like the most beautiful soundtrack to your dreams and then some. Go listen to this now if you haven't. 1 Bumps | Bump

"No More Stories are Told..." is one of the most disappointing albums of the year, in my opinion. MANY others will disagree with me. Why? Plain and simple; different tastes. I'm not a HARDCORE, HEAVY METAL listener, but this album is just too weak for my taste. If you're a fan of strictly beautiful music, this album is for you. If you're like me, and need some type of upbeat rhythm to enjoy an album to it's fullest extent, pass on this one. This album has an excellent flow to it, and features some delightful piano and guitar mix, sadly; it fails to grab my (not so attentive) attention. This album will never crack my top 20 list, however; it is nearly impossible to rate it anything near a 1 (awful). Every track is consistently well done and the intermissions are perfectly placed. "No More Stories are Told Today, I'm Sorry, They Washed Away" is an amazing album for some, but for others like me, a near waste of time. It's beautiful, but just doesn't deliver the musical punch I desire. Bump

Exploding out of the gates with the trippy yet rocking "New Terrain", it is easy to tell that this album is about to deliver something special. You are taken for a ride through warped lyrical passages and blasts of guitar and fuzz that if played backwards creates a whole new thrill. A spastic guitar with seemingly no rhythm begins "Introducing Palace Players", eventually settling in to one of the album's best grooves. Random stabs of down-tuned guitar lines add flavor to create a completely unique listening experience. The vocals shine throughout the album, especially on "Beach" and "Repeaterbeater". "Cartoons and Macrame Wounds" paints a nostalgiac world drawn using childish words that loop and overlap until the song seems to spiral out of control. "Silas the Magic Car" is the most laid back song but also provides the purest vocal and instrumental performance that is simply beautiful. Everything seems to build to the absolutely epic "Sometimes Life isn't Easy". Unfolding like three songs in one, this amazing track takes the listener on a journey from the out-of-nowhere high-pitched screams in the intro to the upbeat verses (including the greatest handclaps ever recorded) to the stunning yet reserved refrain that displays the most heartfelt vocal melody on the album. This is an extremely detailed album that requires multiple listens to fully absorb its beauty. Bump
