Ah, it's a beautiful thing to witness potential finally being realized -- and that's exactly what August Burns Red do with Constellations. Carrying over the positive qualities and disposing of most of the discrepancies on Messengers, August Burns Red manages to make a varied, relatively technical and generally consistent metalcore album. Constellations may not be as big as a breakthrough as Underoath's Define The Great Line was for the genre of Metalcore, though it strengthens the genres reason for exsistence and gives it hope. Most would say that metalcore is one of the weaker subgenres of metal. While I slightly disagree, they're not entirely wrong. However, August Burns Red's Constellations proves that statement false. Constellations has very few dull moments, and contains some very proggy elements as well. When it comes to metalcore, these guys are close to the top. This album takes Messengers, adds more prog, adds more diversity and takes away the excessive breakdowns. This album is a Metalcore masterpiece. 1 Bumps | Bump

Jake's vocals are some of the best I've ever heard in the genre. From the drum fills to the guitar lines, there is nothing bad at all about this album. The first half is one of the best first halves of an album I've ever experienced. Just because it drops off after that a bit doesn't make it a bad thing. This album is a great improvement from their past albums. The album starts off a little bland, but when ABR decided that they should experiment and not have every song sound the same, *cough Messengers* it was a great idea and showed they have progressed beyond stereotypical metal. Yes this album has breakdowns,but ABR show that open chords can be uber technical. The lyrics are very Christian based,Im Christian so I find it very unique and different (everything usually references to water and the ocean) than all the other Christian Metal bands. Summary: Great album,best ABR album yet,but some songs still sound the same. 1 Bumps | Bump

I was expecting this album to be mediocre, in other words I was expecting an album just like Messengers. I was dead wrong. This album in my mind is probably the greatest metalcore album of this decade along with As I lay dying's 2007 release: An Ocean Between us. I tried my hardest to ignore the fact that i disagree with almost everything the lyrics are saying, but once i got past that, all i found was a lot of out-dated riffs and tons of blast beats. there's nothing particularly wrong with this album there's just nothing special. Bump

Not a huge progression in sound for ABR. They're still loud. They're still noisy. They're still chaotic. They're still one of the genres best. If anything, Constellations just has that extra polish. A great, though not quite groundbreaking release, from a great band. Bump
