Back in 7th and 8th grade, I was pretty much listening to Linkin PArk constantly. Then I go this album (even though I heard it sucked by my num etal-head friends), and I was absolutely smitten by it. I had to hide my love for it due to the obvious reaction I would have gotten, but it really got me into pop punk, along with Blink 182's self titled.

It's not that the songwriting or music in general is weak; there's this high pitched frequency present throughout the vocal parts (probably because of some filter) that I can hear because I'm 19. Older people won't be able to hear the tone but it's like the goddamn mosquito sound and it bugs the shit out of my ears. Bad production move.

So maybe you don't like power chords and scratchy vocals, but you cannot deny the emotion that this album has. It's filled to the brim with mood changes, fights, and heartbreaking choruses. Best of all, the dueling vocals make the back-and-forth affair feel raw and personal. This will always be one of my favorite albums.

This album is laced with such a ridiculous urgency and melodrama that it's almost impossible not to get sucked in. Lazzara and Nolan complement each other perfectly with their imperfect yet passionate vocals, and each song builds to capacity, never letting down until the anthemic release of Head Club.

mmmmmm... pop punk at its finest. every track is unbelievably catchy and emotional. whether is angst or.... well mostly angst it keeps you pulled in untill the last track.

I hate this album. Why? Because it frustrates me. Because I've been trying to get into it for so long, with all the praise it gets. Other Taking Back Sunday fans treat it like it's Jane Doe or something, but I just don't get it. God knows I've tried; listen, after listen, after listen, and to this day the only songs I find at all entertaining are Cute without the 'E' and Timberwolves at New Jersey. Other than that, as far as I'm concerned it's about as boring as music gets.

i prefer this album over all other tbs. i'm biased though, because i love john nolan. i would almost venture to give it the 'classic' rating (although a 5 out of 5 isn't quite right) but this album, at least in my opinion, is 'classic' in it's own way.... maybe classic emo. one line describes it all "and with my one last gasping breath i'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt" haha

In the world of tepid pop-punk, debuts are usually signs of a band's potential either not being met, or not being worth a damn. In stark contrast, Tell All Your Friends is an album that shows a band that knew what they were doing. Crafting songs that any teenager could relate to with melodic hardcore, post-hardcore, and pop roots, Taking Back Sunday's initial sound was one of cathartic vigor. Complete with complex dual-vocal interplay, some of the catchiest hooks you'll ever hear (no hyperbole), and mature glances at retrospect, this album is a classic for its insightful glance at a polluted genre alone. But trust me. There's far more than what meets the eye.

There's nothing very groundbreaking or extraordinary about this genre of music. For what it's worth, this is a very fun CD packed with a lot of catchy music. Taking Back Sunday manage to find a good hook in just about each song on here causing them to find a way of getting caught in your head from time to time. However, this album doesn't have much staying power and is typically only good for listens every now and then.
