Remember how Versions was a really cool record, that just ended up not being that good? Well, Tropic Rot is a really cool record that rivals The Opposite of December as being their most focused and aggressive, and You Come Before You as their most interesting and accessible. Besides the mediocre "Celebrate the Pyre", every song here is a hit, in particular...well everything. The light country aesthetic is more fully integrated in the clean sections, which meld seamlessly with the heavy metal sections. It's tough to call this a real metalcore album, but whatever the hell it is, it is fucking great. Could bump up to a 4.5 if it stays on this level of excellence with time.

This is by far the best use of the vocalists range and talent. I enjoy more about this album than any other of theirs

Maybe I'm the only one who can't get into this record. I mean, it really bores me so far. I like a few songs ("Pamplemousse" or "Antarctica inside me") but as a whole "The Tropic Rot" is really pointless. Moreira's singing-voice is annoying and the songwriting consists too much on the "shout+hard part followed by singing+soft part followed by..."-formula. This get's old after a few listens. Also the production from Henricsson/Lovstrom on "Versions" was better than this one. I really liked "Versions", but in my opinion "The Tropic Rot" doesn't reach the same atmospheric level...

From the three or four records I have heard from the metalcore act Poison The Well, The Tropic Rot is easily their best, but with that being said, is this really worth a listen? Well if your a fan of the band then obviously, get on this bitch hard, but if not then maybe get Pamplemousse and Are You Anywhere? and go on your way. It's not that this record is bad, it just seems that the style of metalcore these guys play is worn out, and with numerous listens I found this record to be quite worn out as well. Not for the normal, breakdown after breakdown, reason that plagues metalcore, but its just the vocals, their formula, gets bland really fast. Not to say it is without its strengths though, the dark atmosphere created in the songs formally mention is fantastic, and done better than most other artists of the genre and are definatly worth a listen. So does this change my opinuin of Poison The Well? Not really, but its sure to impress all the fans out there.

I've had this cd for three days and in those three days I can not stop listening to it, and any friend who has even the slightest interest in hardcore is begging me to burn/send them a copy, this is PTW back to form and could go down as a rival to the opposite of december for their best ever.

I my honest opinion, Versions was not that of a non.perfection record. It's an album that never gets old, it grows on you and it will never leave.rThe Tropic Rot does its job quite well, it adds to Versions the heaviness of You Come Before You and what you realize upon listening to this is that RYAN PRIMACK IS A F***ING GENIOUS.rEdit: Jeffrey Moreira is actually my fav singer across all genres. His voice is beautiful and haunting at slower moments, and heavy and crushing when the songs are supposed to blow your mind.

Wow. Fucking wow. This album RIPS. Definitely what Versions should have been. Amazing guitar work, insane drumming, some highly-improved clean vocals and a crushing, oppressive atmosphere, along with some varied songwriting and highly seductive melodies. The coolest thing is that just about everyone wrote these guys off years ago, but The Tropic Rot should change that pronto. Could be the best post-hardcore of the release of the year. We're waiting, Glassjaw.

OK, after sitting with this album for 2 days I have to say, I am THOROUGHLY impressed. Some of the melodies creep into your brain slllloooowwwllllyyy and stay there only to torture you into playing the record again. I love Versions and I loved You Come Before You but this album is incredible and will soon become a classic. This and ISIS' Wavering Radiant are fighting each other for the best album of 2009.... So far... No doubt about it, this record definately deserves a 5!
