4.5 superb | ThyCrossAwaits | March 23rd 21 | Ok, not the only one who got the preorder early then haharThis is so utterly fantastic. You?d expect a full album of duets to falter by diminishing either the band or the collaborators, but this is so brilliantly composed on the part of all parties involved. Equally a wonderful Xiu Xiu record and a showcase of them playing beautifully with the influence of others.

3.0 good | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | December 29th 21 | It's quite a rare feat for me to actually enjoy a Xiu Xiu record, even if Jamie Stewart mostly does his best Mike Hadreas whisper-singing impression. He also has a tendency to bury his featured guests in the background. I like the general sound and presentation here, even though the vocals (including the guests) often sound goofy.

3.0 good | blurred vision-ary | April 1st 21 | couple of highlights, but overall not a very inspired listen. eugene s robinson would have been a natural pick for a duet, and alice bag was criminally underused in her song.

2.0 poor | ajcollins15 | April 1st 21 | I have never been a fan of Xiu Xiu and if you have never listened to them well this might not be a great place to start. In general, they are one of the biggest names in avant-pop and continue to polarize listeners with every release. However, for me, much of their music is more annoying than explosive. Each track on here features another artist and much of the album is a duet kind of nature. However, none of the artists that were brought in add anything (especially for him bringing on some phenomenal artists) and lead singer Jamie continues to be a really painful singer to listen to. Much of Xiu Xiu?s music has the same issues I have with Nick Cave music where it?s so artistic that many people are overpowered by it. However, on the surface, nothing here really screams as original, exciting, or exceptional. This album is below average at best.
