Your Favorite Weapon was the album that depending on the current situation, mindset, and track being played, would stick in the mind of a curious teenager and remain for much time. The band included the catchiness, depth, melodies and immaturity necessary for a good base to rise from.

Plenty of teenagers throw around the phrase "this band/song/album is about my life," but I think very few can say it with the conviction that I do about this album. All the trivialities of teen angst and insignificance are covered with no stone left unturned by personal messiah Jesse Lacey. I can't tell you how personally affecting songs like "Seventy Times Seven" "Last Chance to Lose Your Keys" and, unfortunately, "Magazines" are in particular.

Your Favorite Weapon...Brand New's first album was a group of people merely learning to try and write diverse, great songs. They would later unlock what they truly wanted to create. YFW would just be a child's stomping grounds, but with enough pecularity to suggest something of what does take place. Ignore the comparisons to other pop-punk albums because this is not that, but merely an avenue of learning towards something greater.

Granted this album pales in comparison to the bands later efforts but as a pop punk album it is arguably one of the best.

A really good pop-punk record, with some cool little flairs and more intricacies than typically seen in the genre. It runs together a little, but does have some stand-out tracks ("Jude Law and a Semester Abroad," the ridiculously catchy "Mix Tape," "The No Seatbelt Song," "Seventy Times 7," fantastic closer "Soco Amaretto Lime"). Most importantly, though, the whole thing is really, really relatable, thanks to the fantastic lyrics throughout. Anyone who is, or has been, a teenager should find at least few tracks on here that strike a chord with them.

This might be my favourite Brand New record. Their first 3 albums are all perfect in my opinion, but this album is just funner with great lyrics, and probably the greatest pop punk record ever.

It's not bad. This was obvious a place where they wanted to start with(though to tell you the truth i can't tell whether they had intentions of continuing through this path), and it's clear that they had not really matured back then(despite some serious bitterness in the lyrics at times), but... i don't know, perhaps i was expecting too much? having listened to their following content? The bitterness of the lyrics are not only not as well developed as in the following albums, but the music doesn't complemented anywhere near as well(some times not at all). And as for the actual catchyness of the music, a few years ago i might have enjoyed that more than i did today, but having listened to pop-punk albums of the caliber of "...is a real boy" or Blink-182's self titled, this just isn't convincing me. Regardless, i recommend you give it a try if you like the genre.

For those of us that don't have nostalgia to make us love this record, at least it's a grower. First Jude Law was a lot of fun, then Jude Law + a couple of others, and then it was just a fun record.

This is a really difficult one for me to rate. I love this album, so much so that I deliberately ration my listenings in the strange hope that it stands less chance of ever getting old the less I hear it, but objectively I know it's by no means Brand New's greatest work.

Pop(ular) punk at its absolute worst. Brand New attempt to create anthemic summer songs, but end up sounding silly and forced. I really tried... but alas there are no redeeming qualities about this album (and if there are they're suffocated by the abhorrent lyrics).
