I am loving this album. My favorite song is Plans. There is a spiritual quality to his writing and melody that feels so unpretentious and accepting of his awkwardness in the world. Then the weeping guitar comes in and just brings it to a whole new level of beauty. I've read some bad reviews for this album and the most common negative thing I've read is that they have slowed down and sound more like the aging rockers they are. But I don't agree. To me, they just sound comfortable doing what they do best and they somehow pump even a down tempo song full of emotion and feeling. Is it as good as Beyond? Time will tell. But it's definitely a different kind of album. Beyond stood out in a sea of "flavor of the month"bands and proclaimed DJ's rightful place in the crowded indie pecking order. Beyond is the album they had to make. But I think Farm is the album they wanted to make... more varied, more sprawling, more feeling, more Dinosaur Jr.! Yes. More Dinosaur Jr.!

whoo hoo am I happy about how great this is! Although this album was intended to be a return to form and a more focused "Beyond", it isn't just a Bug pt. 2. This guy is a revamped Dinosaur Jr. The record takes alot of the old vibe, with the fuzzy infectious pop of their 80's and the solo filled rock of their 90's and blends it all together to make some of Dinosaur's most thrilling songs. This is wonderful and unexpected. One might even call this Dinosaur Sr.
And the album art is fantastic.

A shame I have to discover this so late in 2009, as it has everything to instantly put you in a good mood. Superbly performed, overpowering guitar melodies, a smooth flow and relaxing vocals: these are what create this very, very excellent album.

It's been almost 22 years since Dinosaur Jr. released their magnum opus You're Living All Over Me, and yet their still making music that's (almost) as good.

This is my first Dinosaur Jr. album, and it impresses! Drawing from 90s alternative, they also add a power pop dynamic that makes their style fresh. The lead singer doesn't always hit the right notes, and there's one long song too many, but those are minor problems when the album rocks like it does.

"It's a lazy, noisy, hour long jaunt." This sums up the album perfectly. It's as conventional as conventional gets with a few cursory guitar solos added in exactly where you'd expect them. These guys really could have toned down the gain and sustain to let the guitar work breathe a little. As is, it just feels like dense chord after dense chord occasionally mixed under an equally dense solo.
