4.5 superb | Shadows | September 30th 06 | There's almost no journalist in the world who could efficiently describe Arsis's first EP and first release after their debut, A Diamond for Disease. The release is centered entirely around the title track, a 13 minute technical melodic death epic track with more guitar layers than any shredder could comprehend. Every second is packed full of brutal riffs with melodic harmonies raging over the top with James Malone's combined high shriek and death growl vocal styles. Together, Malone and Mike Van Dyne are truly musical prodigies of the modern metal age. to boost the length up to 20 minutes we also have an extreme Alice Cooper cover with a re-recorded demo track, The Promise of Never, a blazing riff-fest that pummels listeners at 400 bpm. Overall, A Diamond for Disease is an incredible showing of technical proficiency and perfectly honed songwriting.

3.5 great | GamamJ | May 13th 20 | This rules pretty hard. Aggression is off the charts, melodies everywhere, and they do anything but shy away from technicality. The songwriting was slightly bland, which they will need to change to make a longer album as enjoyable.

5.0 classic | Poet | June 21st 08 | This is just flat out brutal. Arsis makes one of my favorite albums ever with A Diamond for Disease. The title track is essentially 13 minutes of non stop hardcore and amazing soloing. Not only is it one of the best melodic death metal tracks I have heard, but it is one of the best metal track period. James Malone gives a harsh vocal style that I actually enjoy throughout this whole EP. The other two tracks, while not being as amazing as A Diamond for Disease are extremely respectible in their own ways. The Alice Cooper cover Roses in White Lace has grown on me a lot and is another superb track. The Promise of Never ends this EP on a brutal note. Containing passages of A Diamond For Disease, this track ends this monumental disc.

0.0 | sixthwaytodie | April 3rd 07 | This band is definitely one of the biggest death metal bands that brought me into the genre and sort of created my passion for this type of music. This album is without a doubt to me a classic, but it is just so short that it makes me think it should have been labeled as an EP. Leaves me wanting more for sure, but I wish it had been on this CD.
