People love to say that this is an album that changed pop-punk forever, and I can't disagree anymore. Sure, this is a great start for Fall Out Boy but this is nothing near genre changing.

After hearing Fall Out Boy's fantastic "From Under The Cork Tree" and "Infinity On High" I was anxious to hear some of their earlier work. Sadly, it was not very good. Not enough catchiness for me.

Back in 2003, everybody who was into the underground music scene in Chicago either was a big fan of, or had at the very least heard of, Fall Out Boy. And after listening to this album one time, you'll be hooked. It's catchy, but it doesn't feel like a guilty pleasure. Back then, you could appreciate the band's music and you wanted to root for their ultimate success. What wasn't expected was that us Chicagoans had created a monster and their success ended up being mindless drivel. Nonetheless, if there is one Fall Out Boy album that you need to get (not telling you to do it, just in case if you're curious), this is the only one that's worth getting.

Before Fall Out Boy became ultra sell outs and Pete Wentz became the poster boy for MTV's emo scene, they released Take This To Your Grave. This, their first album, is almost un-recognizable as compared to the current band's sound. Here, they are seen as themselves: making catchy songs, not trying to over compensate with over-production and there are no catches or tricks-up-the-sleave. Its just fun. There is no gimmick.

Back in the days before I discovered Metal,my prized CD was Fall Out Boy's greatest work,'Take This To Your Grave'.Patrick Stump struck me as a frontman that was a cut above the rest,and the musicianship also set these guys apart as a very decent new Punk band.I looked forward to their subsequent release with eagerness on an unparalled scale...then 'From Under the Cork Tree' infuriated me with its new pop sound.Nonetheless,this album will always sit proudly in my CD collection,but if i hadn't made a point of keeping my albums stacked with the bands in alphabetical order,the further releases would be at the bottom.Such a shame,this is a very good record...

Around the time this was released, AKA before the MTV explosion and sold out arenas, I took some advice from AbsolutePunk.Net and gave this album a fair shot. After listening through once, I thought it was a sick joke and sold it as soon as the oppurtunity arose. I try to be as positive/open minded/ respectful to peoples tastes as I can, but this is rediculous. While pop-punk bands like New Found Glory, are playing fun tunes and having poor success as of late, these guys continue to consume our 12-16 year olds girls into a mass state of confusion.
