Suffocation?s best since Pierced. The biggest issue seen on this album is the way too bass-heavy peoduction. Otherwise it is a fantastic look into Suffocation?s new style. A bit slower than the stuff they became known for on their first three records, but still amazingly technical, brutal and melodic. Good stuff!

A huge step up from their self titled record, this was a pulsating brutal record that got the blood pumping and the juices flowing and stupefied me the first time I heard it. It isn't mentioned in the same breath as their early output for a reason, since it's nowhere near on that hallowed stage, but what this is is a record by a band finding their footing again after two stumbles.

Blood Oath is probably Suffocation's slowest album. Or if not the slowest, it's the album that spends the most time at mid-paced or slower-paced tempos in their discography. This wouldn't be a detriment if the band weren't notoriously better at breakneck speed and didn't forget how to keep things energetic when things eventually did slow down. That's not to say that the material on Blood Oath isn't solidly written, because most every song here is at the very least decent. The issue is that it doesn't go much further than that, ultimately resulting in a middling effort. They can still write solid brutal death, that much is certain, but there's no clear standout from this album in the way, say, "Abomination Reborn" was to the self-titled. The production is the clearest of their discography, but doesn't fail to pack a decent punch. All in all, Blood Oath is a decent brutal death metal record, but it's also definitely one for the fans of Suffocation more than anyone else.

amazing atmosphere. every track on the album is excellent. the solos are great too, and the martial decimation remake is a great way to end the album.
