S.C.I.E.N.C.E is the perfect example of what a kid wants to hear in the 90s: a fresh, heavy, funk-filled, catchy, melodic, silly, psychdelic album full of awesome basslines, heavy riffs and guitar effects, funky drums, silky smooth vocal harmonies, saxophone solos, intensely fast rapping, DJ scratches and everything else that was cool in the 90's (Ahh that was a long sentence). This is a perfect summary of Incubus when they were in their 90's funk metal prime before they went all soft on us. Easily their most creative effort and a brilliant mix of genres to create an album that you'll absolutely adore a for a year or so until one day you sadly grow out of it - but you will still love and appreciate the memories of this awesome over the top experience that was S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

Possibly the best "nu-metal" album of all time, and I put nu-metal in quotes because this is far from a
traditional nu-metal album. Incubus go above and beyond with S.C.I.E.N.C.E., combining infectious
catchy choruses with funky verses, stellar song writing, a phenomenal saxophone solo in "Summer Romance,"
and some energizing rapping and screaming from Brandon Boyd; not to mention the fact that the rest of the
band are as tight as ever. This album for me is Incubus in their prime: playing fresh, energetic funk rock and
best of all, it sounds like they were having a shitload of fun doing it.

I wouldnt say they are arrogant, perhaps people say that because they think Brandons lyrics are a tad pretencious or something (personally I love them).
This is an awesome album IMO, I dont really listen to them anymore but Incubus pretty much defined my teenage years musically. Crow was kind of lame though, so hopefully their new album will be a return to SCIENCE form.

If deep down inside you have a soft spot for funk, you will love this album. It consists of hard rock/metal guitar playing, jazzy drumming, funky bass playing, and a singer who can sing however the hell he wants to. You can still here the Mr. Bungle influence that Incubus cites in this album. It isn't as weird as fungus but the music is even better.

Incubus with a rawer edge. The riffs have a slight metal touch here and there, the samples and electronic parts are much more present here. Still, the album has a big groove on most of the songs, while others are very dark for Incubus. Highlights: the slap bass parts of Dirk Lance, he made good use of them here. You want to hear the more experimental and harder side of Incubus? Maybe start looking here

My all-time favorite record. Heavy riffs, experimentation with metal, funk, and hip-hop fused together galore laced with melodious vocals from the one and only Brandon Boyd. A somewhat obscure but totally awesome record.

There are few bands that can blend such drastically different genres in such subtle and genius ways. Incubus blends funk, soul, and nu-metal with unexpectedly awesome results. The often over-layered vocals and glitches can be obnoxious at times, but the masterful technique used and the poetic lyrics make for an unforgettable album.

Probably, the best nu metal album at the time it was launched, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is a delightful little psychedelic (of the marihuana kind) jewel. rThe riff of "Redefine" and the kick-ass "New Skin" would make this album shine even if it didn't featured the rest of great songs that appear here assembled together.

Before I heard this album, I just thought Incubus was one of your typical mainstream rock bands who never really offered anything to music. The progressive, experimental rock songs rampant throughout are wonderfully contrasted by the jazzy, more mellow songs. Incubus would never be heard the same way again, even if their new direction has provided equally astounding music.

One of the best Incabus albums. Everyone on their insturments does an insane job and for once Mr. Boyd does his part extremely well with his insanity vocals.
Drop all the other cd's by this band and keep this one in rotation, and pass the blunt to the left

This album isn't groundbreaking, nor does it represent the best of 90's music. Even by 1997, the ideas employed by Incubus were stale and outdated - exhausted by the Beastie Boys and the Chili Peppers, and perfected by Rage Against The Machine in 1992. And while Incubus introduced the pop-funk-rap-rock scene to the masses, they certainly didn't improve upon an idea that was flawed to begin with. Filled with weak songs and stale concepts, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. may hold nostalgic value for some, but that doesn't make it good. There was plenty of good music made in the 90's, but, sadly, Incubus made none of it.
