So when I do sound at the youth group in my town, and the kids need something "danceable" before and after they worship their imaginary friend, some skater boy also attempts to put in Owl City or like Hawk Nelson. You know what I do? "Kick 'em in the testicles?" False! Insanely tight jean makes them immune. Instead I rip out their music device and put on Silversun Pickup's Swoon. "Why do you do that Brandon?! Because not only is this insanely fun with someone the catchiest melodies of the year, but with a dark atmosphere and poetic depth, this simply pwns noobs. Amen.

This cd is a serious contender for the album of the year spot for me. If you have not listened to this cd, you are doing yourself a disservice.
Also, Put this on next time you want to seduce a chick. Seriously.

2009 has showed that the Silversun Pickups can top an almost topless record.
Swoon is an the sophomore release from the quartet, and is an album that encompasses
many things; be it the beautiful melodies, shoegaze heavy mid sections of the interesting
but perfect voice of Brain Aubert. Swoon contains no filler, and really rockets along
with up tempo track highlights like 'Panic Switch' and 'The Royal We', plus the gentle
'Catch & Release'. Somehow the Silversun Pickups have outdone themselves, by topping an
extremely impressive debut, and writing one of the
best album of 2009.

The if it isn't broken don't try to fix it mentality works well here. The Silversun Pickups know their trade and add a few experimental touches here and there to further shape their sound. I think they were trying to mix a little indie rock in with their throwback 90s alternative edge. Despite their initial success with "Lazy Eye", there really is no prime candidate for a follow up as a hit single, just an albums worth of strong Pumpkinseque tracks. They even throw in the Cello this time around. A very enjoyable from start to finish listen that is a road trip favorite. Further props to the Pickups for not allowing Mitt Romney to use their amazing song from this album "Panic Switch" at campaign events.

I can't give the most accurate rating, seeing as how I haven't heard the whole album, but I listened to them live when they were touring, and I frankly was not very impressed. All of their music sounded extremely similar, and there was absolutely no variation in style or tempo, at least in their live show.
They really just seem like a mainstream alternative rock band trying to be artsy. To me it seemed like it failed.

Finding it initially hard to get into the first time around, this one leeched its way into my ears with a ferocity I haven't experienced in some time. In other words, the album steadily started to blow me away in virtually every aspect of it. There's a really nice production style going on here, and the album as a whole gives off a really big, vibrant sound. On top of that it seems to convey it's power on an emotional level, and has some pretty interesting lyrical matter to be interpretted. All in all, this was a real gem of the last year, I'm sorry I didn't get into it sooner. (Edit: After beating this thing to death for months, it hasn't lost a drop of appeal...this things a monster)

Silversun Pickups quite possibly topped themselves with their sophomore album Swoon. Decisively harder than Carnavas in many places, Swoon cranks up the volume with its single "Panic Switch," but performs beautifully throughout. Opening quickly with dual songs "There's No Secrets This Year" and "The Royal We," the album runs the gamut from high to low - and succeeds spectacularly. Initially, I wrote off Swoon as too generic and divergent from SSPU's smoother sound - I'm a big Pikul fan - yet upon later listening sessions, I've revised my opinion. SSPU sounds different, but change is sometimes good.

Ambition is something that this album has more than a fistful of. On their sophomore effort, Silversun Pickups return sounding heavier and darker than before, with a few more tricks up their sleeves. Just when you thought "Wasted On" and "Future Foe Scenarios" [off of Carnavas] were dark, you haven't even tapped into the power that the band puts forward here. "Growing Old is Getting Old" pulls at your heart strings. "Panic Switch" is pure chaos and power in the form of music. "Draining" is more delicate and fragile, but still as moving. The only thing that holds this album back from sheer greatness is that at times, they sound like any random band pulled out of your local alternative rock station. I mean, "It's Nice to Know You Work Alone" is good, but it isn't anything new.

I'm so back and forth on this album. I love it no matter what but everytime I listen to it I find something that I love/dislike. More love than dislike though. Solid release from a very up-and-coming band.
