Probably the best album they've released to date (that includes EPs). However, this band has yet to release an album I can listen to without wanting to skip over tracks here and there. Some songs are just not worth being shown the light of day (ex. Skeletons, Dragon Queen). Recommended Songs: Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock, Shame and Fortune

YYY's swtiched it up, and it's awesome. this is their dance album, and dance you will. synths galore and plenty of killer vocals from frontwoman Karen O. this may not be my favorite YYY's album, but it most certainly is one of the best albums of the year and contains a couple of their best songs.

"Zero" is one of the best '80s songs written since the '80s. "Heads Will Roll" ain't bad either. "Runaway" takes the cake for me. As far as I can tell, since the album Fever To Tell, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have had a bit of the Midas touch. I hope the future brings a lot more from YYYs.

I liked "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll", so there :P.
But in all seriousness, yes, the "indie band discovers synths" thing is cliched, but I think the Yeah Yeah Yeahs used it a lot better than your typical indie group. I like their synth-y sound better than their old sound.
As for all those garage bands you mentioned...
I never cared about the Von Bondies and still don't. The Hives put out two good, solid albums than they discovered synths, sucked, than disappeared. The Vines put out two good albums, than pissed it all away with Vision Valley, making sure that no one would give a damn about their latest album, despite the fact that it's a slight return to form for them. Kings of Leon always seemed a bit cut rate and uninteresting to me (even their new stuff). The White Stripes are awesome, and have always been awesome.

For some reason I gravitate towards the slower songs on this release, probably because they aren't mired by stale 80's beats and instead show a mastery of dynamics and lyric. Never the most deft musicians, Yeah Yeah Yeah's have always been enjoyable at least and mesmerizing at best, never the top nor the bottom of their genre. Don't expect leaps in musical execution, its the same ol' with synths instead of guitars for the most part. Karen O is this band, her uniqueness propels each song. Not their best; boring at worst, enjoyable at its best.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs were never so bad that you could really call them worthless, but even so, It's Blitz! is enough to make their previous two albums look a little bit silly. Gone are the irritating vocal tics, the indulgence in noise, and most of the guitars, to be replaced by a batch of mostly electronic songs that offer the kind of depth so sorely lacking on tracks like "Gold Lion" and "Date With The Night". "Runaway" and "Frantic" are likely to be two of the best ballads of the year, while even the more upbeat likes of "Heads Will Roll" and "Zero" sound like the work of a much more mature band. It's not quite the same shock that albums like Death Magnetic and Because of the Times have provided in recent years, but It's Blitz! still deserves to be commended in the same way those albums were; for being far better than anybody could have reasonably expected.
