Idk why this album gets so much hate, it flows so well. And it doesn't have nearly as much Botch worship as O God the Aftermath

The endless claims that this record is a Botch ripoff and that it tries too hard will never change my mind. This record introduced me to heavy music and for that I am forever grateful.

I wish I understood why others enjoy this so much. I just don't. I have listened to this album at least 100 times, and I just can't find what others see in it. Just droning aimless mathy bland metalcore. It's not a bad album, but their subsequent releases with Brandan are so much more intense, intricate, and deep; it's like the difference between average pop art and literature. I haven't listened to this album for years and it really, for me, just hasn't held up over time.

Ah, Norma Jean's debut with The Chariot's Josh Scogin at the helm. It was a solid start but rnot one I see myself coming back to all that often over their later material.

"Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child" is a very interesting bet on Norma Jean's discography. They have always been well-qualified in what they did, always delivering good songs, but when we see a band that bets on creating a 16-minute Metalcore song, it's because they want something more in their career. Even being a controversial option, it worked and continues to work for other bands that bet on the same model.

This in my opioion is Norma Jean's best work, Josh Scoggin's vocals are perfect for the music that is being played, Yes I know that many have said this album is basically a rip off of Botch's "We Are Romans", and I can see how people would think that, but there is a thing called influences.....so.......ya, Great Album!

Classic album at the perfect time. Many people knock this album because of its Botch references but O'God was far more a rip off than this. This is a perfect album and really showcase Josh and his chaotic-ness. The production is punchy and raw. Defiantly an album that will be jammed for many years, so many good tunes on this album.

Norma Jean is not for everyone, but this album is by far their greatest effort to date. as far as vocals, Cory simply can't compare to Josh in raw talent. As a whole, "kiss the martyr..." provides lush and startling texture, tempered with just enough tradition and, well, rhythm. i tend to attribute this to josh as well, since NJ became relatively tame and boring after he left, and his next project "The Chariot" was so far in the other direction to be un-listenable. people seem to hate this album, but i would suggest you listen to it 3 or 4 times without distraction. Yes, it is obscenely dissonant, but if it washes over you and sinks in, you will begin to notice subtle virtuosity in both the instrumental and in the vocals. being able to invoke emotions has always been a true test of good music, and hardcore/posthardcore has long been associated with angst and little else. somehow with this album NJ manages to bring out much deeper, more intelligible emotions from their harsh chords. that alone is worth a few listens
