4.4 superb | Erwann S. STAFF | March 20th 20 | Ok, wtf. That first track reminds me of (yeah yeah I'll say something so controversial yet so brave) Talk Talk. Come at me. Other than that, this is jazz, but not like the most recent BBNG endeavours: this is much more traditional in its sound and composition, relying much less on post-rock, electronica and hip hop tropes. Thus, it's less original, and less modern too. In fact, it's not truly less original, it's just less BBNG. But boy, this might be the rbest shit they ever done. Adding some impressionist classical music to their compositions help elevate the tracks to a whole new level, the level we (at least I) hoped for when we first stumbled upon this young band. When they let it go, true power emerges. When they restrain the music, a newfound sweetness come out.

4.0 excellent | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | May 31st 20 | Two fourths (one half, for the mathematically-minded) of the jazz-hop ensemble BADBADNOTGOOD have decided to drop the -hop suffix and themselves from the band and go forth with a collection of straightforward and really, really, really, sweet jazz tunes.

4.0 excellent | Bedex | March 20th 20 | A jazz epic like the greats, with incredible variety and storytelling abilities. This is one big jazz fresca with guitar, piano, sax, you name it, and I don't think it is the kind of album that warrants a track by track description. The outro to 2 is fantastic, the intro to 5 is fantastic and displays the variety of atmospheres found here, which the guitar-led (but a bit overextended) 4, the playful 9 or the piano piece on 6 all exemplify quite nicely. Go home Kamasi (c). Might grow, but for now 4.2
