The songs are so smooth
whenever I want to think about anything I listen to this record
the feeling it provides is ... well no words for that

I feel it is perfect in every way. It is the first real album I heard by Frusciante, aside from Shadows Collide With People (Acoustic), and I loved it then and I love it now.

Perhaps the main thing that turned me on to 'The Empyrean' and John Frusciante's solo work in general is the fact that he really has the freedom as an individual to let his own talents and aspirations shine. Apart from the musicianship, there wasn't really too much that RHCP had to offer in my opinion. With The Empyrean, the complexity and talent of Frusciante is very in your face, yet the songs also touch a whole new part of the soul, reaching far beyond what words can even explain. The man himself is one big mystery to me, which begs the opportunity to dive even further into his prior solo efforts.

This is the first album I heard by Frusciante, it's unfortunate that it took me so long to listen to this great man. The Empyrean is a beautiful album, through and through. Especially the opening song, Before the Beginning. It is such an epic f'n song. It feels as though it's more than just a guitar solo. Frusciante's guitar skills are equally matched by his lyrical skills. You can feel the emotion in every song. Another good song from that album is Unreachable, "We don't rely on what we get, We're picking up where we aren't yet " is a great line. Frusciante's lyrics are just mesmerizing, makes you think. One More of Me is a strong example, not only does he go out of his boundaries singing-wise, but the lyrics are just remarkable "Whats gone will never come back, but it exists when you think of it. And what is anything, anyway? But a series of things running through your brain" The Empyrean is just an astounding album. It's true music.

Far better than anything The Red Hot Chili Peppers have put out since '99's Californication, John Frusciante's 10th solo record The Empyrean is a new high in his career. Its sound manages to be loud, blistering with top-notch guitar, but there is yet so much sensitivity to it, as it manages to carry out its concept in an unfailing manner. After so many consecutive releases in '04, Frusciante took his time with The Empyrean. And that paid off.
