This is the record that broke System Of A Down into the mainstream, and it couldn't have come at a better time. The best way to describe this sound is to take the genre of "nu-metal" at the time and arm it with literacy skills, leftist opinions and, surprisingly enough, pop sensiblities. It may sound awkward on paper but this album just WORKS. There is a wide array of music here, from the ridiculously outspoken (Prison Song), the ridiculously catchy (Forest), the ridiculous angsty (Needles) to the just plain ridiculous (Bounce). Sure, there are tracks better than others here. But there isn't a terrible or even bad song present on Toxicity; and this is why SOAD broke and became so popular. An excellent record that has stood the test of time. 1 Bumps | Bump

I love this album. They retain all the heavy riffage, crazy drums and psycho vocals from the first album, but add more music and depth to it at the same time, along with some nice Armenian flavors. I especially love the creepy modulating chords of Forest, the beautiful chorus and crazy verses of Chop Suey, and the song Needles just because its has so much energy. Definitely another win album for SOAD. 1 Bumps | Bump

This was the first CD I had heard of System, and it really grew on me. Even my parents loved it...after reading some lyrics, my mother wasn't like "This is SATAN!" After this album I bought the first and the rest of them and I listen to them off and on, but this on was the best. Best listenings are "Bounce," and my fav "Needles." 1 Bumps | Bump

The effort that broke System to the mainstream is also among their most bland and boring efforts. Sure, "Prison Song" and "Needles" are among System's best songs, but the overbearing amount of boring filler on the album makes this album way overlong and weak at times. It starts off well and ends perfectly, but the mid section is raped with these weak filler songs that just go to show how badly System can ruin themselves. The fact is the band is truly brilliant, but they definitely need to stick to making real songs, instead of the boring filler that invades the album many a time. Bump

With timeless classics like Chop Suey, Toxicity, Aerials and the opener Prison Song, Toxicity is arguably one of the greatest alternative metal albums of all time. Serj Tankian is an amazing vocalist, possibly one of the best of all time. While Daron, Shavo and John may not be the absolute greatest in the world at their instruments, this genre does not depend on awesomesauce crazy technical instrumentation, so they certainly know how to rock out to some of the heaviest damned tunes. Unmissable stuff. Bump

This album opened my eyes to the world of metal. In my book, that is a classic. Every time I play this CD, I am never, ever disappointed. It's just that good. It changed my life, and I love it. The vocals are awesome, the drums are excellent, I can't imagine the guitar any better for this kind of music, but the bass could of been brought out more. Anyways, still probably my favorite album of all time. Bump

Honestly, this album changed my life. Not because of some big political statement, but because it was the first metal album i ever bought by myself, and it opened my world to what is now one of my favorite styles of music. Now, my musical tastes have matured a lot, but i still find that this album is extremely enjoyable. The melodies and vocals are ridiculously catchy, the drumming is great, the guitars and bass leave some to desire, but they get the job done. Anyway, I truly believe that if I didn't get this album, I would have probably become a pathetic, wasteful wigger instead of the person I am now. Bump

One of my first heavy albums i owned, this is SOAD at its best. the reason i like it so much is it strikes the perfect balance between the silly, circus-like songs and the serious politically charged songs. Bump

While System may have not totally abandoned the mad sound of their debut, Toxicity does bring a majorly increased level of pop appeal. And it works. Very well. Just about every song on the album is an ultra catchy romp through their trademark political quirkiness all while retaining a very heavy sound. It's not nearly as raw as the debut but it's certainly just as brilliant; this time, the band's genius lies in their ability to be outstandingly original while being extremely assessible, instead of the shear madness and intensity of the debut. Its greatness has worn off a little since its release, but not very much, which is a very commendable thing given the time it was released and the music that was popular at the time. There's only a few skippable tracks, "X" and "Psycho". Definately worth picking up if you've been under a rock for the last 7 years. Bump

SOAD are just about the only metal band i can't really get into. Its hard to put my finger on, but something about the style of this band doesn't quite do it for me. I think maybe it all just sounds kinda dry to my ears. The guitar tone is usually very, very raw and seems to just scrape along with Serj's annoying vocals. Not my type of metal. Bump

This is a marvelous album. System is one of the bands that evolved my taste in music, and Toxicity is easily my favorite album from them. From the Opener The Prison Song, to the ending of Aerials, this packs a pretty unique, but spectacular punch. Massive hits like Chop Suey and Toxicity are done extremely well, while ATWA, and Science being sleepers for me on here. My favorite song on here (and one of my two fav. SOAD songs ever) is definitely Aerials. This is truly haunting, but so damn good. Bump

I had heard a couple songs from this before. Mostly from Chop Suey's radio play and Shimmy being on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4. Once I finally listened to this, I was blown away. Even though some of the songs were very weird, I still loved every part of this album. I still listen to this a lot and still love the way that Serj sings it all. I highly recommend this. Bump

This is a true Modern Masterpiece I completely agree with everything you said Brain Dead Though I am a drummer, I must point out that John isn't your average drummer and does some interesting stuff on Toxicity He is a part Jazz drummer, so this adds some different Elements to there already odd mixture of sound Either wayy, System of a down will always be my number 1 band I love system of a down :] Bump
