Update: yea it’s good

2.5 average | Hugh G. Puddles STAFF | January 10th 20 | Weeb pop for distractible metalheads who thought they were over nu metal. When Grimes
plundered the kawaii-niverse to chalk up cheap points for 'innovation' with lazy U.S. critics over
Art Angels, she must have thought it was common sense to leave out the Babymetal. Nice 1-
upmanship, Poppy. Pretty inoffensive, a few cool left-turns, and an overall decent run of dumb
fun.

4.5 superb | JakeStallion | January 9th 20 | Sounds like a natural progression from the direction she was headed on the Choke EP. She shows a clear appreciate of the nu-metal/alt-metal sound of the late 90s/early 2000s with enough fresh ideas and weird Poppy flare to ever keep it from sounding like a ripoff. This is fantastic.

3.5 great | Brandon Scott EMERITUS | January 10th 20 | Even for Poppy the move into metal was a turn of unexpected turn of events, one that she's
masterfully manipulated into a victory. She built on the rejection of expectations with a
very solid set of songs that delve heavily into nu-metal, metalcore, and industrial metal
territory, very much seizing upon the late 90's revival zeitgeist that's permeated the underground
metal scene while also infusing the music with her typical pop infectiousness and trademarked
oddity.

3.5 great | GoldenGuy444 | January 2nd 23 | Poppy's best project so far. Hits the diversity that I'd hope for with a more metal / sludge direction while keeping it about the hooks. The strongest elements are the moments where Poppy lets the glitch infused production and vocal aggression take control, during tracks like BLOODMONEY, Fill the Crown, and Bite Your Teeth. I just wish more of it followed this style instead of giving in the Cutesy melodies like on the hook of Concrete. A great project that could have been elevated even higher by dropping the meme aspects of going full blast on the aggression and glitches. rThis is the direction she went with the extra tracks added on I Disagree (More).

2.5 average | Moneylishi | December 15th 22 | Unlike Rina Sawayama's debut album, I don't think the hardrock and metal elements of this album blend well with the pop elements. The otherwise good pop elements end up being marred by these harsher influences as a result.

3.0 good | SinNanna | December 2nd 20 | I was skeptical at first to indulge myself in listening to this record as I felt like what I had heard from Poppy already in terms of her pop and metal crossovers including the single Concrete from this record felt usually a bit on the gimmicky side, like the whole appeal of it merely just came down to creating a quirky schtick by combining cutesy, sometimes childish pop music with roaring metal guitars and drums. On paper, I can totally get down with a concept like that if the songwriting is actually compelling and memorable, but that seemed lost in her music to me. Concrete had redeemable elements, but as a whole the track is a total mess with it's downtuned metalcore breakdowns, fastly strummed bits of thrash metal guitar leads and pop vocals and melodies that come straight out of a saturday morning kids commercial, which jump awkwardly from section to section without any interesting progression. However, I was sort of pleasantly surprised to hear that Poppy further into the record does not at all rely on this obvious crutch to make her music look enticing, and actually wrote some pretty enjoyable songs which range from an eclectic mix of dreamy ballads and industrially tinged rock tracks which seem to take some queues from Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. I'm not always into all the parts and bits of progression within these songs and it all comes together a bit inconsistent, but apart from that I was pleasantly surprised and definitely think Poppy has proven herself to be a part of the brave new world of pop artists of today as well.

5.0 classic | christopher164 | December 1st 20 | I remember hearing "Concrete" for the first time, both intrigued and disgusted at the same time. My curiosity got the best of me, and her intriguing approach to music and art, her YouTube videos, and her blonde hair won me over. I love my dose of metal and my dose of bubblegum pop, so hearing the two married filled the empty hole in my soul. And this project is a trip. There are a ton of fun and unexpected twists that will bend your brain backwards, but if you give a chance, you'll come to love and appreciate.

3.0 good | Blazewire | July 2nd 20 | I Disagree is a fun but unbalanced album. There are an interesting mix of influences present, from the obvious pop, to arena rock, industrial metal stomp and Babymetal. I'm all for experimental albums with plenty of influences, it's just for me some of the songs don't land. I feel if the songs were more focused to a particular style I would have enjoyed it more. I'm very intrigued to see what Poppy does next. Songs to check out: Concrete, and I Disagree

3.5 great | davezillaMP3 | May 25th 20 | Pretty damn great Kawaii Metal album, even if i am not AS hot on it as I was when it first came out (for reference, my OG. score of this was a 5). this is a high Great that is a hair short of being an Excellent.

3.5 great | cjbizzlebizzle | March 18th 20 | Poppy is just something I would expect to dislike if someone were to describe her image and music to me but in the end it doesn't take long to enjoy this album. The first 60 seconds go from whispering over a siren to like two bars of a stereotypical dissonant lead over breakdown rhythm to an uptempo dream pop chorus right back into the nu metal breakdown. The album continues with these eclectic, energetic ups and downs and in the end it is kind of a wild ride full of humor and a great mix of the dark heavy nu metal and glistening, shiny, over the top pop elements. Perhaps the best thing here are the transitions between both worlds, at times flawlessly morphing from the metal into the pop. It feels like this album shouldn't work but in the end most of the tracks are catchy and display above average songwriting to be able to blend heavily contrasted styles.

3.0 good | ellagos | January 14th 20 | Feels gimmicky at its most metal moments thanks to some lifeless performances but the more melodic songs are good and an indicator of where Poppy should move to next.

3.5 great | Mitch | January 14th 20 | I guess this is the next logical step for her to go. Concrete is easily the best song on here, kinda dips after that. Still thoroughly enjoyable though.

4.0 excellent | Evangelancer | January 10th 20 | I am a metalhead, but secretly love Poppy, and have from the beginning (my wife and I almost used 'Lowlife' in our wedding). I was nervous about her crossover into metal, especially with BLOODMONEY and Concrete as the first singles, but the rest of this album absolutely nails the blend of pop and metal Poppy. Excellent production, good songwriting, even better than expected album structuring - this is good.
