Yeah following their discog this feels like a huge step up. It finally feels like a grand, ominous album with its own coherent (for the most part) personality and feel. I don't know if it is the layers of low ended noisy drones forming the basis of a lot of tracks or what but there is just something that ties tracks together very nicely. The record is weakest when it evokes their prior discog actually, i.e. tracks that feel like stylistic exercises more than parts of a cohesive whole. 9 and 13 are clear examples, while 8 starts off that way but then builds up quite nicely back into the album's style - I don't dig the guest vox though. The run from 1-7 is pretty much flawless. With 1 and the intro of 2 you already know this is going to be better. 2 and 5 are huge jams, and 3 and 6 have fantastic atmospheres - especially the latter with its horror feel. While weaker the second half still boasts some great tracks, with the fantastic second half of 11 and 12 which will be a huge banger live. It's a bit pretentious but I also dig the burning piano outro, it tickles my drone fancy nicely. Their magnum opus? Maybe, we'll see what they offer next. 4.05

I feel bad for anyone who paid money for a double LP only to find the second disc is literally 18
minutes of a piano burning. Between the other 14 tracks, there might be a total of another 18
minutes of pure static and screeching noises.

Huge 180 from this group in terms of quality, simply amazing noise/hip-hop that is both sinister and enthralling. About time the production matched Daveed's incredible lyricism.

Clipping.'s most conceptually consistent and quirky (as quirky as one can be with horror themes) album that is, however, also much more poignant than one'd imagine, as it reaches for several real-life social themes outside its creepy-cum-goofy-cum-creepy vampire focus.

When you're ready to let it sink in, it can make you shiver from beginning to end. That's how it was for me on my second listen, when I gave it my full attention. A horror album where every (potentially) gruesome scenario is a metaphor for a real-life psychological horror, contrasting it's following partner album which largely does the opposite. On first listen, I had wished there were more drums. On the second listen, I realized the pulse was meant to be in my head, as it was implied by the placement of the vocal rhythms. First, I thought his flow and wordplay was very precise and well-executed. Then, I realized just how vivid yet interpretable Daveed's story-telling is as I started applying the details in these distinct scenarios to details of situations that I, and most people, should reasonably fear. This album brought me substantial realizations about hip-hop; How artistically daring it can be, and how effectively a fiction can indicate something real to a general audience, thus granting a window for anyone who wishes to get into the genre across backgrounds. Absolutely noteworthy: The sound design in "Run For Your Life" is precious. The transitions between tracks is so smooth, it makes the album feel like one extended sonically entrancing art piece. The final track is literally just a burning piano for 19 minutes, but because of how engaged I've been with the concepts throughout the prior 50 or so minutes, I've sat through it way more times than I can rationalize to anyone. I think it's a testament of accomplishment.

By far my favorite thing clipping has done. Featuring some of their darkest and heaviest instrumentals, mixed with hauntingly beautiful melodies unlike anything in prior releases. Hooks so catchy, they become disturbing little earworms you can't get rid of (e.g. "Can you feel it everywhere? Oh he dead."). Diggs hits new highs in lyricism and performance throughout, and there's a new level of synergy between the beats and the rapping. rIt feels like clipping. has fully realized and executed upon all their best instincts at once, while successfully adding in elements I didn't know they were capable of. I am really excited to see where they go from here.

It's filled to the brim with cheesy and ridiculous violence that has been a major factor in clipping's discography, but the level of lyrical proficiency, flow, and production make it especially replayable.

On one hand this album has amazing production, atmosphere and attention to detail. On the other hand the vocals, rap flows and lyrics are just lackluster on the whole. Most of the raps sound the same and the lyrics which people hail as "scary" and "creepy" are honestly not, at all, and corny at times and the importance of the narrator of the experience cannot be understated despite amazing industrial/horrorcore elements. The vocals often remove you from the truly immersive experience and it feels like the rapping is one flavor while the beats and production are an expansive palate. 'Run for Your Life' rules.

Clipping has undoubtedly released this year's most atypical and twisted rap album, but the talent of all the band's members has made it possible to build an album that will be remembered in a very positive way. I think they managed to go even further, creating a work like never before he had succeeded on all their previous albums. First of all, they succeeded in designing and working it, with a more excellent pen and production with a subject and theme that fit perfectly to their skin. In concrete terms, it is a consecration. However, I still find that there are moments that can be forgotten, often musically, sometimes repetitively, and the album should have been a little lighter. After that, it remains unique, and imperfection can also turn into beauty, which is a bit what happens here.

Rap AOTY. Seriously. Incredible textures to the instrumentals and Daveed brings some of his most erratic, maniacal and straight insane verses to date. The last verse on 'Blood On The Fang' might be the best verse of the year. Highly recommended.

Their best project to date. Save for the extraneous ending ambient track, this was compelling from front to back. Can't stop listening to it. It's conceptual, builds a vivid world and narrative, and might be the most lyrically dense hip hop record I've heard all year. AOTY material for me.
