Easily the best band to come out the 21st century, Nickelback once again display their songwriting prowess and technical mastery of their instruments on this stunning social commentary/avant-garde suite.

Nickelback's new album is different yet the same. Taking the proven formula that has gained them multi-platinum albums and adding a more noticeable rock and roll feel Nickelback manages to release a surprisingly good album.
If you manage to get the stick out of your ass, forget the other albums, and just listen to this looking to enjoy yourself you will find that Dark Horse is fun, catchy, and an overall solid album that you might find yourself spinning every once in a while, especially when u need some energy to enter your ears.

Why do I rate it a 5 out of 5? Because this album is the pinnacle album out of EVERY mainsteam band out there.rAnd if you don't know what "I wonder what's up under there?" means, then you are a virgin, homosexual, or you have never had sex.rAnyone who calls this cock rock, fuck you. Because, yes, it is about getting laid pretty much, but you're completely stupid to rate soemthing mainstream poorly. rWhy? Because you guys don't know how to rate something. You don't rate something based on genre's like Death Metal, you rate something along the impact upon society, along with rating among their rivals.rThis album, along with The Long Road and For All The Right Reasons, are the pinnacle of Nickelback's career, and destroys any other mainstream rock band today.rYou disagree? The only reason this gets a 1.5 and not a 1 is because of the song "Just To Get High." I have to admit that this song is great, especially by Nickelback's standards- the good ambient guitar intro combined with a semi-shred guitar solo (!) make this by far one of the best songs done by the band. The rest of the album, unfortunately, is the same generic garbage that Nickelback seems to fill every one of their albums with. Add in some truly abhorrent lyrics about sex (see S.E.X) and you get this album. Download "Just To Get High", to hear a decent Nickelback song for a change, and forget about the rest of the album- unless for some perverse reason you want to hear Chad Kroeger sing "Sex is always the answer." I know I don't.

What I think pisses me off most about this the surcome hypocrisy.
They come out with a corny as fuck, though remotely catchy, Gotta Be Somebody aimed at 14 year old girls and then come out with a song like Something In Your Mouth. Most Nickelback records I can stand (I guess) but this one of those records that acually piss me off.

i cant say i was expecting more than the usual generic radio singles these guys produce, and thats what i got. problem is, they should just stick to that instead of trying to "branch out" and bring in all these influences, because when a radio rock band tries to break out of the boring formula, you get the mess that is Dark Horse

Redundant scores, yes, but there was just something, something i don't know what it is, that just told me that i HAD to do it. And ok ok, before you judge me as a bandwagoner, i do mildly enjoy some songs on them, maybe 2 or 3, but i hate the ones i don't enjoy so fucking much, it's not enough to make up for it.

With repetitive song structures, questionable vocals, horrible lyrics, copious amounts of inconsistency and repeating almost aspect of their previous albums. Nickelback have failed to progress forward in technicality of music or in the maturity of their lyricism and have chosen to follow the same path of generic radio rock that they have taken before, but with even worse results.

Nickelback yet again releases a record. Yay.rThis album is exactly what you'd expect it to be - boring, recycled, generic and sounds exactly like all their other albums. The only sort of "innovation" is the addition of drinking songs, which were obviously only written to get loads of money.rStay as far away as humanly possible.

Most people would simply rate this badly and move on just because it's Nickelback, but unlike most people I actually listened to this album and really tried to approach it with an open mind. Well, the only thing Nickelback has proven here is that they know how to play something other than chords and a few songs actually have guitar solos (gasp!). But that's as far as things go. Dark Horse is basically one bland, boring, song after another. "Something In Your Mouth" and "Just To Get High" represent the album's best moments but even they are mediocre at best. Some of the songs are downright agonizing to sit through ("Shakin Hands," "I'd Come For You," "S.E.X."). Basically Nickelback doesn't even make the slightest attempt at covering any new ground or doing anything new musically and yet again do a vast majority of the songs sound almost exactly the same. An incredibly bad effort from an incredibly dull band

This will be extremely successfull on the radio. I mean, Something In Your Mouth is such a hard rocker and If Today Was Your Last Day is the most touching ballad of all time. It is, i will admit, one of Nickelbacks albums that won't be remembered in 50 years (unlike All The Right Reasons) but there are some very underated songs on it. This Afternoon and Just to Get high. but other than their softer stuff i think this album is just anthem based and trying to get on the charts. Yes The songs are good for a while but i don't reccommend letting them grow on you. Burn it To The Ground is by far the best track, the lyrics are always good for a laugh and it's 'chunky' sound is great for a party. I am not a fan of Nickelbacks 'soft' music but when i'm in the mood i can listen to it. If Today was your last day was my least favourite but it was overall a very good album.

Riding their wave of hype amongst 14-year old girls and their mothers, Nickelback adopt an even more mainstream rock sound. And the result is, foregone, really, poor. There is the catchy lead single that wears thin after a few listens, but everything else is just pure bog-standard. I've heard a lot worse, but not even from Nickelback. Their worst album.

Given their string of lackluster releases, I was a suprised that Nickelback could actually put out something as good as this. It's not a perfect album, by any means, but it is still a fun listen packed with energy, and they actually show a more technical side to their musicianship. Now if only Chad could stop writing about drink and sex...
