I actually liked this one a lot more than Kind of Blue. It felt a lot more varied and experimental, both things I absolutely love in music. Like the former it's really awesome to have this playing in the background, and time seemed to fly by. A lot of the time slower stuff manages to drag time a bit (which doesn't mean they're bad, at all), but it slid right by while I had this playing. I just wish the tracks weren't so long. I have no real problem with long tracks as long as they're good, but they take up a lot of space and I can't have even one of the two on this on my iPod without losing a bunch of space so I can't put other songs on.

A phenomenal first half followed by a good, but not as amazing back half. I can definitely tell why this man is considered the god of jazz, but jazz just doesn't seem to hit me the way it hits some people. Hopefully with a few more repeat listens this album's rating will inch its way up 3.8/5

A gateway for Miles Davis and a departure from any kind of hard bop that he still had left; the concept of avant-garde, ridiculous arrangements, and long songs was first used at it's most mature by Miles on here, and these concepts would later be explored on his next album "Bitches Brew" which is considered to be the complete version of this album. I prefer this one because it is short and concise, memorable and revolutionary, there would be no "Bitches Brew" without this, and we all know that if that album didn't exist, progressive rock, symphonic rock and especially Jazz, would not be the same.

Confortable. Modern. Refreshing. Some parts remind me Pink Floyd's masterpiece Wish You Were Here (released 6 years later).

In A Silent Way is one of those albums that make you think, and appreciate the music that you are hearing. Miles Davis delivers once again with his potent mix of darkness and beauty forming one of the most prominent jazz releases of our time. Davis is only out done by his own work in, Bitches Brew and Kind of Blue.

This is, to this day, still the only Miles Davis album I actually enjoy. Both pieces work equally well as background music or as a focused listening experience, thanks to the almost funky groove the players settle into, and a few very catchy ostinato riffs that appear out of the mix from time to time. Miles always surrounded himself with great musicians, of course, and here's no different - I won't pretend to be familiar with either Herbie Hancock or Wayne Shorter, but they both impress me here. Chick Corea, on the other hand, is frequently out of this world, and though I've certainly heard better from John McLaughlin, he's not slouching here either.
