It's a joke/tribute album featuring some of the most ridiculous music written this year that purists are already starting to hate. However, the combination of Thursday's sound with a real "screamo" bent with some grind musicians being thrown into the mix is an immense one. Arguably the record of the year.

Felt indifferent towards this album initially, but after Never Mind The Bombings, this album clicked with me. Good emo-power-violence. The best, even.

United Nations is a band with fantastic musicians from other bands even more incredible. The sound design, coupled with the cover art is really unique. I confess that i laughed at the first instance, but in a friendly way about it. I'm not a big fan of the Beatles, and this provocation is kind of absurd, and pretty clever. Also, "The Shape of Punk That Never" is a great tribute to Refused.

Eh...I thought it was pretty good for a while but it wears out quickly. I kept it for a year or two hoping it would click but gave up and got rid of it. The saxophone on that one song is just about the only thing I regret not ever hearing again.

The hardcore/emo style of the early ‘90s went missing, so Geoff Rickly and company (possibly members of GlassJAw and Converge) decided to revive the sound they once cherished under the name United Nations. Containing the technicality and rawness that defined ‘90s emo, United Nations recaptures the sound with incredible vigor and liveliness. The album is riddled with on-and-off melodic/coarse vocals countered with dense power-chord riffs and the occasional finger tapping, most notably on ‘No Sympathy For A Sinking Ship,’ ‘Subliminal Testing,’ and ‘Model UN.’ I would say that sound has been revivified.

Mixing thursday with some screamo and a lot of experimentation this album certainly did not dissapoint. The last song will surprise to, and only adds to the solid debut outing by United Nations.
