Close to the Edge..... what can a dude even say. This shit is beautifully amazing prog. I have listened to this album through a large number of times, and always find something new to enjoy. All the musicians on the album are top notch, and it is evident in the songwriting. As a guitarist, this album amazes me because of some of the licks in here. For example, the guitar part after the bird noises is way cool. Besides being fairly pretentious, I can't really think of a major flaw in this gem. I mean, this thing has a 4.5 overall rating on a site full of elitist bastards! (sorry guys) But I digress, this is a fantastic outing by prog giants Yes. Check it out now!

One of the greatest progressive rock albums of all time, 'Close to the Edge' is a flawless release that defines Yes's career, as well as progressive rock in general. Gone are the throwaway tracks from 'The Yes Album' and especially 'Fragile', and in are three brilliantly composed epics that do not ever disappoint. Not to mention that the organ section in the middle of "Close to the Edge" gives me chills every time I hear it. Check out: The whole thing.

The title track doesn't lose steam for 18 fucking minutes. This album paints quite the prog-rock picture. Descriptive, thoughtful lyrics, awesome musicianship, and beautifully arranged vocal patterns, it's all here, man. Check this shit out if you haven't heard it yet.

Unique, thought-provoking, and a little weird. Although Yes is an easily recognizable name in the progressive world, ask anyone on the street and they will agree that they are nowhere near as renown as names like Pink Floyd or King Crimson. This fact a bit depressing (seeing as the music is still brilliant) but well deserved. No matter which way I listen to them, not of Yes' works hit that "Perfect" sound that I yearn for and achieve other bands. This album proves to be a incredibly solid album and is a delight to listen to, but it is just being held back by something that escapes my grasp. Nevertheless, this is definitely a recommended album for any prog lover. 4.0/5

Despite what the song lengths might suggest, Close to the Edge is quite a straightforward album. Each track is packed with quality ideas and high-end musicianship, with little meandering or indulgence - the album clocks at a rather succinct (for prog) 38 minutes - but instead taking odd yet successful twists and turns. As a result, these are the most dynamic epics in Yes' entire career, and their best album.

So I just rated this on Neutralthunder, don't know why I hadn't had this rated before. An essential progressive album, and the best YES album along with their 1971 effort. The play and technicality between the instruments is so fucking engaging and captivating, the vocals are top notch, each track brings a different texture to the table. The classic opener "Close to the Edge" is possibly the best progressive epic from the classic prog era, and YES sure showed the world that they were capable of more than they had done in the past before this was released. If you are a progressive music fan, and haven't heard this, then you are doing something wrong. Classic.

Only three tracks, really? For the album's full 40 minutes, I was never bored once. Possibly my favorite Classic Progressive Rock album of all time, alongside King Crimson's debut and the 1973 album Selling England by the Pound from Genesis.

A spectacular musical achievement, this album manages to be virtually flawless, and one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever made. The instrumentation is brilliant, and coupled with interesting lyrics and unique vocals, the whole album manages to flow cohesively and interestingly. It is a must listen for anyone who enjoys music.

For a while I thought this was one of the most overrated albums in progressive rock. Sure, the title track was phenomenal and easily deserved it's fair share of the praise, but I was quite let down by And You and I and Siberian Khatru. Their 1974 album 'Relayer' easily seemed like Yes's best album to me.
But then one day I decided to give Siberian Khatru another listen, and I loved it. Every single second of it. I even like it more than Close to the Edge now. It is a genuine classic, very complex but not over the top, with lots of melody and techincal flair, it is a perfect balance. And You and I is still only average to me, but it serves as nice relaxing song, so depending on the mood, this song is either quite good or somewhat weak.
Thanks to the strength of tracks 1 and 3, I feel this album deserves a 4.5
