Mathematically, London Calling is quite possibly the most perfect album ever. A heroic
blend of everything the band loved (reggae, politics, rock'n'roll, punk, surf), it moved The
Clash away from being the best punk band in the world, and made them the best band in the
world fullstop. It takes 10 tracks for the perfection to slip, and even then, other bands
wish they could write a "Death or Glory" or "Wrong 'Em Boyo". As for anyone else being able
to write "London Calling", "Lost In The Supermarket", "Train In Vain", "The Guns of
Brixton", "Spanish Bombs", or "Rudie Can't Fail"....forget it. Revolutionary, timeless, and
awe-inspiring, London Calling is everything an album should be.

I don't understand how this album is such a classic for so many. I mean, there are a lot of reasons why it's not crap such as "versatile", "not 1 bad song", "changed the face of punk"... but to me this is not enough, i just need some killer tracks, intensity and emotion. Here it's fun, pop, sweetie but that's it. I gave it time, i bought it in a special edition, i'd really like to tell it's a classic that can deliver the music... to me it's just a classic build up by the fans.

This is the album that made me realise the proximity between punk music and alternative. I had always considered punk to be some drunken, slurred, fast-paced ramblings about topics they only grasped at an elementary level, but the Clash made me realise there might actually be something behind it all. Musically competent, politically and socially astute, and a pre-cursor to all the music I had come to know and love? Count me in. The music is great, but it is a 5 for everything else surround it.

I know... 'London Calling' is a classic. But I just don't like it. The title track is great, and there are a few other good tracks dotted around. But that's your lot. There are a lot of styles, which make the record feel very disparate, like a compilation of a band trying different genres. It's all so half-arsed and shoddy. It doesn't connect with me at all. Sorry.

Alarmingly loose, fun and effortless, while sweeping through various genres...the sound of a "punk" band maturing without sounding stale or letting go of their roots. Undeniably great songwriting all around, remarkably consistent for a double album. A classic that makes making classics look easy.

Beautifully diverse, conceived, produced and performed, London Calling is shocking. This album has the trademark irreverence and zest of punk with a fascinating mix of pop and meticulously constructed melodies and rhythms. It is that good. If you don't understand the hype try to get past the radio hits and listen to the whole album.

My favorite album of all time. Both musically and lyrically perfect in every way. It's a glorious mess of punk, rock 'n roll, ska, reggae, jazz, pop and everything else, while still undoubtedly sounding only like The Clash. After all, they're the only guys who could ever have pulled this off. London Calling is the ultimate victory of music lovers and enthusiasts all over the world, represented by The Only Band That Matters.

Are The Clash the only band that matters? Well when "London Calling" came out that statement was probably true because no one had made an album as good as this for quite some time. The song "London Calling" kicks off the album and the rest is history. "Lost in the Supermarket" is my personal favorite as I can relate perfectly to it. I have always been searching for an identity of my own and have yet to find it. "Lost in the Supermarket" gives me hope that one day I'll wake up and not give a fuck anymore, and I hope that day comes soon. I also recommend "Rudie Can't Fail", "Spanish Bombs", "Clampdown", "The Guns of Brixton", "Wrong 'Em Boyo", and of course the best pop song ever "Train in Vain".

This album is probably the most important record for Britain?s music. It changed the scene by introducing purely american genres onto the music scenes, from rock n? roll, to reggae to jazz. And it influenced so many artists in that scene. And I am grateful for this album for allowing other british artists to follow in their footsteps and give their key perspective to those music genres. The lyrics about war, drugs and celebrity are absolutely representative of this decade. And I understand how it can be considered one of the defining albums of the 80s and one of the best for Britain, for me, it?s not one for me. I don?t feel like this is extraordinary in any way, it?s a very straight-forward, that to me, doesn?t go too much outside the box, with my 2021 mindset.r

This album is why Punk is the best genre music has ever conceived and why it should be revered as more than the product of rebellious teenagers ranting through the confusion of a world gone awry. Of course, London Calling has the rebellion, the fiery, inclusive, and impassioned spirit, and the dirty, raw vocals, but there's an artistic ambition that transcends it all. It thus remains one of the greatest records of our time.

This is barely closer to a 4.5 than a 5. I shit you not when I say that the only flaw this album has at all is Lover's
Rock, and I can't stand that cringe-inducing travesty one bit. If the band had left that song off the album this
would be absolutely be a classic.
It's crazy how close London Calling comes to perfection. The album maintains an almost impossible balance of
variety and consistency. I absolutely love it.
Fuck Lover's Rock.

''London Calling" is, without a doubt, the greatest myth album of all time. It is an album that has come to represent fearless fragmentation, bar-stool poet observations and faith in rock 'n' roll, past and future, to beat back the worst of life. However, whilst this is all true, the vast majority of the music does not stand up. The ska and skiffle are classic, straightforward and textbook: the Clash's usual habit of wearing-in new genres to make them their own is absent. This makes the widespread genre-dabbling endearing rather than great. Certainly, no album can be called great when there are nearly as many terrible songs (''Jimmy Jazz", ''Lover's Rock'' and ''Revolution Rock'') as greats (''London Calling'', "Spanish Bombs", ''Lost in the Supermarket'', ''Guns of Brixton'', ''Death or Glory'').

A very very very varied album, with punk rock at its base; sprinkled with reggae and ska. Hard punk rock to joyful "Lover's Rock". This album flow seaminglessly well. The hit single in the U.K. "London Calling" compared to the joful "Train in Vain" in the U.S. just show how varied the Clash were at this stage, when they edging on popularity. This is Clash's best album!

The best punk record ever written, only the Dead Kennedys, the Misfits and the Ramones come even close to matching it. If classic punk artists had known how punk would turn out to be today, they would have probably stayed together longer and put out more great albums, excepting those that disbanded due to the deaths of members.

I'm not a fan of punk so I dunno why I bought this, but as always with great discoveries, it was on sale. The only memerable song from here is the title track and I just didn't see a point to the entire album except for the lower-class of 1970's Englishmen having a moan. But then again, that's all punk was.

Sadly I know very little about this album's history besides some remarks Joe Strummer has made about the talking heads to Tom DeLonge. That's not the point. The point is I've always heard my favorite pissed of albums compared to this one, some sort of blueprint for being angry and channeling passion into nonconformist musicianship. Bought the record before a 20 hour drive back home from college and instantly I was shocked at how accessible this record is. From from to back, every song can potentially be on a party playlist without too much fuss and at the same time could be in the headphones of my roommate who painted to a handful of their tracks. Every spin of this record unlocks more of the nuances that would have been the icing for a live show but typically get lost in production. Nothing is lost here as the love beats of the caribbean are mixed with the bitter and skeptical attitude of London's disillusioned. Punk at a whole different level.

What can I say about this album except that its brilliant. It grows on you after repeated listening revealing more of its intricacies each time plus its FUN. The musicianship is fantastic even though its punk. The lyrics are at times meaningful and at other times funny; not obnoxious or repulsive.
