yeah theyre really good guys, mike manheimer's a funny ass dude. i like this album because its like the black dahlia murder but if they emphasized circle pitting over all other show elements.

Not even quite average, even though average is my idea of the worst. After the beating to my brain that was Juggernaut, I was stoked to hear that there was a Knights of the Abyss album I missed. Maybe it was a mistake to anticipate, or maybe I should have kept tabs on them so a let-down wasn't possible. The vocals on Juggernaut were performed by Dustin Hadlock, whereas Shades is fronted by Dustin Curtis. The two are not interchangeable. I hate Shades. I hate it a lot. It bores me to tears, and that makes me angry. I look forward to the 2010 release, and the return of the other Dustin.

If every song was as great as "penalty of the tyrant" this would be rated alot higher. 2/3 of this album is filler.

i think this album is alot better than juggernaut in many ways.
the vocals have greatly improved, shades is more melodic, solid guitar work and drumming...really enjoy this one
and i messed up when i rated it i meant to give it a 4 not a 4.5

nice album, this is a great move for the band and the sound is different but i like the style and lyrics a lot, not much to say other than calling this a worth buying album

a huge step forward in the right direction, huge improvement on the vocals (now being performed by a breath from the surface vocalist), musicianship shows techinical skill, driving metalcore/deathcore riffs and competent drumming, bass barely heard however.

I feel like I'm listening to Black Dahlia Murder except downgraded in this album. Its not bad, but I think they went from a generic deathcore band to a generic cover band and its really wierd hearing the difference.
