5.0 classic | rufous | April 20th 18 | Sleep's new album in 2018 - isn't it the best 4/20 ever?

4.5 superb | Risodo | April 23rd 18 | Sleep seems to have become increasingly aware about the creative ability that can be created upon their works. Mixing Doom elements with Stoner without being repetitive and generic is really difficult, but for the band, it seems like this is a childhood play. "The Sciences" is a release to rejoice many fans of music that comes the year of 2018 as disappointing. The band lets us dream, making us always looking forward to new kind of stuff. Music thanks Sleep, it is for this kind of work that musical diversity is worth it.

5.0 classic | rafalafa | April 21st 18 | I can’t believe there’s a new Sleep album. I also can’t believe how good it is. Absolute madmen.

4.0 excellent | cvlts | April 20th 18 | Matt Pike of High On Fire, Al Cisneros of Om, and Jason Roeder of Neurosis.
That alone makes this impossible to disappoint.
Oh, and it's Sleep, so, there's that...

2.5 average | TheManMachine | August 29th 18 | I may wind up murdered via bong-clutching metalheads by disclosing this, but I find their seminal Dopesmoker to be a bit of a slog. An obvious objection given its hour-plus "song" undertaking sure, but span ain't really the issue -- for me it's more a dearth of direction+deviation considering its duration. 15 years later: riffs, production, symmetry; enhanced unquestionably. Graciously sectioned off into song-songs even. Vox on the other hand kinda contribute a layer of xtra corn. Speaking of which, is it just me or does this sorta feel like Plainville compared to their raw+roary precedent-setting predecessor? Am I just over Sabbath riffs played loud and slow and steady? Is it sad that the intro intrigues me more than the majority of it?

4.5 superb | Arokan | April 26th 18 | First new Sleep record in about 15 years sounds just like the old ones. Which basically means that it's awesome. This band just doesn't age and the album sounds like it could be a followup to Holy Mountain. Heavy slow riffs, paying tribute to legendary Sabbath, form into haunting melodies create that incredible offworld feeling that was so characteristic to their old stuff. Can't stop listening to this.

4.5 superb | coma2rium | April 23rd 18 | I'm super stoked to have studio cuts of Antacticans and Sonic Titan, and Giza Butler may be the best thing they've ever written. The Botanist has some weird post metal and even vaguely shoegazey vibes to it and I love it as a closer. Opener is fucking awesome, I read someone say its the sound of the Sleep engine roaring back to life after almost two decades. Perfect descriptor and perfect intro to the absolute banger that is Marijuanaut's Theme and really, the album as a whole.

4.0 excellent | DadKungFu STAFF | April 22nd 18 | It's not Dopesmoker but what is? Still the Stoner Metal AOTY and possibly Metal AOTY overall. Much more of a Sabbath-worship album than Dopesmoker, which is easily the most overdone style of this kind of music but Sleep are so much more than every other Stoner Metal band. Surprisingly clean, almost polished production for how dense and fuzzy it all is. Marijuanat's Theme is SOTY so far. That is all.

4.0 excellent | Sandblasted | April 22nd 18 | The Weedians have not missed a beat in 22 years. I swear Matt Pike's riffs encapsulate the strength of Atlas himself. Excuse me while I take the next flight to Planet Iommia.

4.0 excellent | McMegaMountain | April 20th 18 | Not overly familiar with this band's material outside of Dopesmoker. I know enough to know that this will be hugely talked about it. And it deserves it. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

4.0 excellent | commonist | May 8th 18 | 82/100. An excellent release from the legendary stoner metal band Sleep. With bludgeoning guitars, pounding drums, and sinister vocals, The Sciences takes no prisoners, throttling the listener from start to finish. I also loved the space-themed lyrics--- while they were a bit campy, they struck a perfect balance of cheesy and sinister.
