The last two Soundoffs from Xeno have been him comparing non-August Burns Red-style bands to August Burns Red. Did they touch him inappropriately once or something?

like a snake eating its tail, At the Gates’ influence on metalcore has come full circle with “To Drink from the Night
Itself” being the best album August Burns Red have ever made.

Surprisingly good, which makes me really happy. Looking at my ratings you?ll know I truly love the first two more death metal based and proggy ATG albums. After that they streamlined their sound a little, which I didn?t enjoy as much. Their comeback record was extremely disappointing to me, however this one the e act opposite. The closest they?ve come to the sound of the first two since Termindal Spirit Disease, and I love it. Even with Blinded by Fear recycled and used in both To Drink From The Night Itself and In Death They Shall Serve lol.

The singles of "To Drink from the Night Itself" were no longer very encouraging. A lock took over me, and i soon subjudged that this album would be a disaster. Well... it's not, but neither is anything too encouraging. The impression that remains, is that "To Drink from the Night Itself" should have been released at least 20 years ago. With the concept of Melodic Death Metal in other pillars, At the Gates lost his hand in his music.

Better than the last album bc it actually feels energized this time around instead of just going through the motions. Still not amazing but it's At the Gates playing melodic death metal that sounds like it's not being played by old guys just so they can justify going on tour again and hey that's an improvement.
