Brilliant and scary. Anna Von Hausswolff voice is really absurd, showing a somber air to her songs that have distorted atmospheres of a cruel reality. A great and hauting year for music so far.

I hate to break the beautiful 444 ratings count, but I have to chime in with a sound-off, as this is perhaps one of the absolutely best albums of the 2010s. Anna brings to the table some of the most harrowing imagery and sound design that is not only disturbing, but also hella gorgeous and captivating.

I didn't know bansheewave existed after Siouxsie. This one is a monument of macabre and tribal and the culmination of everything she previously hinted at. The rhythm has never been so tribal and wild, the organ has never been so frightening, and Anna's voice never sounded as grand and manic as it does here. She's finally moving beyond her obvious influences (most notably, Dead Can Dance and Kate Bush) to create a behemoth of a record, one of these bizarre albums that will pass the test of time because of how uniquely supernatural they sound. The Great Old Ones (the Lovecraft beings, not these froggy chaps playing metal) might rather listen to Anna than tremolocore.

Anna can sing and Anna can drone. On Dead Magic she does both with such great composition, in terms of songs and the album's entire flow, creating one of the more unique and memorable albums of the year thus far. The album pits very long stretches of minimal, ambient mystery against truly amazing, beautiful vocal outbursts that pack so much power and emotion. These two approaches perfectly contrast each other when woven into an atmosphere most similar to a wake at times. Anna creates true beauty in the ominous and melancholic. The Mysterious Vanishing of Electra is a true track of the year contender but the musical context surrounding only serves to elevate its greatness.

For being built around an eminent Copenhagen church's pipe organ this is epic+eerie as it deserves to be. Five colossal compositions, the last three of which hinder the momentum of the first two and just may be better for it; cuz on the whole boy what a bewitching and dizzying blend-up of the blissful and the beastly. While accompanying drown-worthy droners are able to go heavy and feathery and dread-inducing dronier, it is ex-Electra Hausswolff's flying-colors vocal-accord with all of the above that makes it. From serene seraph to rabid howler-n-hisser to guttural anguish to falling down a pit. Makes one wonder why ya'd ever mutter.
