It's really fucking weird and out there, even by Jack White's weird ass standards. There's a foray into old school hip hop filtered through the weirdness of early 90s indie artists. Despite my initial utter confusion, once the song clicked as some unholy crock pot of Beck, Zappa, and the Beastie Boys it became clear that as a listener, I just had to roll with the album as it went. Experiments in genres and sound are thrown at the wall haphazardly, and while not all of them work and it makes the album hard to follow as a whole, I think a sense of cohesion and context is something that the album will develop after some time to sink in. Plus it's got that unmistakable JW sound rooted in old rock and blues, and the album isn't above rocking out White Stripes style every now and again in between the madness. Self indulgent is the best phrase that comes to mind, but luckily with this guy it's bound to be an entertaining ride, even if some of the ideas are a bit of a (boarding house) reach.

Yes. I have always wanted this to happen. It's an album that has been largely disliked by many people, even big-name music critics, and then that big-name music critic gives the album an incredibly high score. I want to see what happens. I want to see the score go up solely because a music critic likes it so much.

2018. The stylistic all-the-wrong-places-ness of this album is what grants it its quality for me. Jack White really did want to make this thing lol.

I listened few things coming from the genius of Jack White, many of them from the White Stripes. I had no expectations for this album, especially by not consuming this type of music so much. But the final product is very interesting, showing a musician that seeks more influences in other sound fields in which it does not dominate. The critics are clearly misplaced.

It's easy to listen to this and initially hear cold garbage, but this record is just so over-whelming
that it will take time before you realise it's just kicking your fucking ass! I won't be surprised if I
bump my score up for this because I'm honestly still in shock...I'll get back to you

Interesting album. I hear blues, electronic, acid jazz, gospel, and hip hop influences in this album. Some works, some don't.rTracks I liked best: Connected By Love, Why Walk A Dog, Over and Over and Over, Respect Commander, Get in the Mind Shaft, Whats Done is Done, Humoresque. rThe other tracks were garbage or filler.

Bad. As someone who loves annoying music this was pretty hard to sit through. One of the worst records I?ve ever heard. Corporation was the only thing I could possibly get into. Truly an awful album. Somehow I hate this guy even more.

Jack changing things up for this record is hardly a sign of his output increasing in quality. He hasn't released anything remotely interesting (excluding Lazaretto's exceptional title track) in almost six years, and this album has done little to convince me he's capable of reasserting his merit as a renowned artist.

Well, everyone who said it was going to be the same old same old was dead wrong. Jack is trying new things, some of it works and some of it doesn't. I like it, but I can see it being pretty divisive for the folks in his fan base that like more straight ahead rock and roll. It's really not THAT odd or experimental... it's just different for him.
