Gainsbourg daughter in a typical Gainsbourg daughter record: her half-French, half-English lyrics are delivered by her typical hushed vocals with more bombastic choruses enhanced by gorgeous, lush, grand - everything you want! - production. Not all tracks make this aesthetic a home run - basically, most subtler tunes struggle to be as memorable as the rest - but this is nonetheless an intricately textured album.

First of all, I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I know I listened to one of Charlotte
Gainsbourg's previous albums and liked it, yet it didn't really stick with me. I honestly can't
remember much of it now. So, having listened to a lot of straightforward singer-songwriter albums
this year, I expected something different when I saw this album's cover. This might be a lazy
comparison, yet this album reminds me of Chromatics, as well as a more serious take on what M83
was doing on his latest album ("Junk"). Maybe also Air, whom I haven't listened to since their
album Talkie Walkie. Charlotte's new album has a retro, dreamy, and late-night funky vibe. I
like that some of the songs are longer than a standard 3-to-4 minute song. For example, "Deadly
Valentine" is 6 minutes long. The song doesn't change much during that time, yet it's driving
disco/synth beat is still catchy and satisfying throughout. I'm looking forward to giving this
album some more listens.

This is easily her best effort yet. Her very own take on dream pop and chanson with a Serge Gainsbourg approach to songwriting, giving it a nice retro touch. Great record!
