Solid orchestral death metal with fantastic production and smart songwriting. While the quality dips after the first four songs (closer "Narcissus" is especially lackluster, being far too poppy for an appropriate finish, and "Sunlight/Moonlight" is cloying), the album is still quite solid.

While repeated listening has exposed some of the flaws in this album e.g. the simplicity of the guitar in some of the songs and the fact that sometimes it is the symphonic elements alone that carry the song I still find 'Communion' to be an exhilarating album. 'Lovecraft's Death' and the title track show the band at their savage best while pieces such as 'Anubis', 'Narcissus' and the brilliant 'Sangreal' show a stunning melodic side to the band. Well worth your time if you like your death metal to have a taste for the theatrical.

Was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I have been doing. The orchestral elements add drama
and tension to the music rather than weighing it down with pomposity and the melodies are
incredible. Had the raise the score as it keeps getting better with each listen.

Makes me wish they can go back to having shitty production so that they'd be forced again to come up with some interesting song writing like they used to. The only thing noteworthy about this is the keyboards.

I was expecting this to be at least solid, since this album's ingredients look decent on paper. Holy shit was I wrong, this isn't just boring to listen to, it's frustrating how bad it is. The riffs are garbage with only a few decent melodies scattered throughout and the orchestral arrangements are a joke. This is pretty much gimmicky faux death metal trash that no one will care about in a year. Avoid.
