An involving listen that requires patience but rewards in alot of different ways, and the musicianship is incredible. There are massive songs on this album that feature countless solos and lots of interesting musical ideas that was definately revolutionary for its time period in the jazz community but it is positively a technical and musical jamathon that music lovers with a good ear can appreciate

There aren't many albums that you aren't allowed to dislike. Somewhere along the line, you'll always find quite a few people who agree with you that, say, Revolver is average, or that Blonde On Blonde is Dylan at his worst, or whatever. Yet, I'm finding that expressing anything other than the wildest admiration for Bitches Brew is basically unforgivable. I've felt like I'm seconds away from being lynched when I've told people that I think this is the worst Miles Davis I've heard. So, I'm really sorry....but Bitches Brew, for all the instrumental ability, experimentation, and stoned ambience, is a really average listening experience, with only sporadic moments that I find enjoyable. Repeated listens haven't helped me enjoy it, and neither has an expanded knowledge of jazz. I just don't think it's anything special as far as quality goes. Don't kill me!

This is the album that got me into jazz. My brother borrowed this album and brought it home one day and after about two bars in, I knew that I had to own this album. The next day I jumped onto my Raleigh 20 and peddled into town to buy it - a very happy moment in my life discovering this album. And as a bonus, "Bitches Brew" is great introduction to the wonderful world of jazz fusion!

I used to be a fan of Davis but one that did not appreciate this album. I used to feel like it wasn't for me, like I didn't "get" what it was putting down. The strength of this album is that it is very good at conveying *urgency.* Records that try to convey too many ideas or feelings at one time risk losing some people. Bitches Brew is a chaotic mess and a glorious one.

Bitches Brew. Some call "Kind of Blue" the best of this jazz genius, but this one contains the best arrangements in the history of jazz. While in the overall scheme of things I prefer both Coltrane and Monk to Davis, this remains my favorite jazz record ever. It's just so flawless, all epic 10 minute plus tracks full of the weirdest shit you will ever hear. It attacked my mind for 90 minutes. Usually, for me, Miles Davis has this and Kind of Blue, and I'm not a giant fan of the others, (as I said, overall I prefer Monk and Coltrane) but this one is a different story. It's diverse, colorful, it varies all the time. It's just phenomenal.

I agree with Nick Butler on this album. For all the hype that it got, I was expecting something much more exciting. For the vast majority of my listen I was sitting, waiting for the real stuff to start... but by the end all I was left with was a feeling of disappointment. Beyond some jazz noodling that seems to be pseudo-influential I get nothing from this. Give me "In a Silent Way" any day. 2.3/5

Miles's trumpet playing is the definition of less is more, creating a lead for the rest of his band to follow in this amazingly trippy musical experience. However, there are moments that just drone on and on and other moments where Miles' sloppy playing just shows itself.

The album that I grew up with. It took many years of listening over and over for this album to settle in my head as one of the most fantastic creations in the music industry. Dabbling into large amounts of experimentation, this Miles Davis goes where no-one else had. Bitches Brew is an effort, but pays off immensely.

Experimentalism, your name is bitches brew. Miles Davis is a man beside himself, brain cleared from the blues and filled with red pushing the limits of ideas in every direction, which hit the music world like an open parachute. Every person who enjoys their instrumentally focused genres (namely core acts) owe a debt of gratitude to this pop-destruction that compromises nothing all the way through. It takes getting used to and it can be unnerving but after many spins and an open mind it begins to make sense why people bow to Miles Davis and hold this in such a high regard.
