"Dear Desolation" is Thy Art is Murder's best studio album, and the best release of the genre in 2017 (along with Fit For an Autopsy's "The Great Collapse"). The first half of the album is superb and shows a great diversity, CJ McMahon is in more shape than i could imagine. However, the second half is quite repetitive and this has knocked over my rating. Summing up, the record is fantastic and has few flaws in both production and lyrics.

Will need a few more listens but definitely a moderate step up from Holy War. There's a bit more variety here to work with and definitely a couple of notches heavier. Getting some definite behemoth and even lamb of god vibes as well. Good album.

i actually thought holy war was pretty solid contrary to most people but this album takes holy war, pulverizes it, puts it in a blender of razor blades and vinaigrette, solidifies it, pulverizes it again, and snorts the fuck out of it, and shits out anything better than holy war could have been
