4.1 excellent | Benjamin Kuettel EMERITUS | June 8th 17 | Planetarium is a wondrous, massive experience that explores ideas of fate, mythology, the solar system, and other big topics. It's not perfect, but the music is consistently engaging while frequently changing genres from ambient ballads, to frantic electronica, to spacey soundscapes, and other styles. It can elicit a range of emotions and reactions from a listener, as these collaborators decided to make something more daring and ambitious than any of their individual projects would allow, at times to a fault. While a bit long-winded and over-indulgent at times, the strengths of Planetarium make it adventurous and highly engaging, being one of the best albums of the year.

3.5 great | Zack Lorenzen CONTRIBUTOR | June 8th 17 | Planetarium sure sounds like it's lost in space, and there's certainly some appeal in that for its own sake, but its namesake calls to mind a more structured, palatable experience which it frequently fails to deliver on. There are still plenty of successes here, though how many of those it takes to redeem the aimless floating will vary by listener.
Will it work for you? Who knows. Here's the more important question: why is Neptune larger than Uranus on the cover?
c'mon
