Never have I been so unimpressed with an album upon first listen, I mean I heard this once, then just basically put it down for a solid month before even remotely flirting with the idea of giving it a second shot. I'm a fucking idiot. 'Demon Days' is fantastic, an eclectic mash of utter madness somehow organized into 15 tracks. Pretty much leaving behind whatever the Gorillaz were, Albarn and co. restructure this animated 'super group' into something truly quite unique. I mean the idea of mixing cool verses and hooks with some sick rhymes is hardly new, it's just few do it better than these guys here. Armed with Damon Albarn's own musical insanity and a slew of excellent guest stars, 'Demon Days' is a party album, introspective character piece and twisted/fun labor of love all at once. The album really doesn't falter from start to finish, every song seems in it's right place. It's successful as a whole, but at times can be a bit goofy, but 90% of the time, you can just roll with it and let 'Demon Days' have it's fun.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this album. Ultimately, I think it's one of the most influential records of the 00's and a solid record overall. However...I think it pales in comparison to Gorillaz' debut and signals that they'd never truly return to that sound, for better or worse. In spite of that, some of Gorillaz' highest highs appear on this record, such as Feel Good Inc., Dirty Harry, Dare, and Last Living Souls. This is also undeniably more ambitious than Gorillaz' debut but not necessarily all the better for it. I think it's more that I just built this album up so much in my head based on the acclaim and it fell a little short of that. I don't consider songs like Demon Days or Don't Get Lost in Heaven as something I'd like to see Gorillaz do, even if I don't think they're *bad*. But oh man, is Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head a tedious song and I hate White Light with a passion. There's more good than bad here by far, but I do find myself pining for more of that classic downtempo trip hop sound that the band perfectly captured on their debut.

Classic, yes, but I feel like it doesn't have as much of an identity as the other albums. Some could say it has a pseudo slow rock with unenthusiastic depressed vocals, kinda like Feel Good Inc or Kids With Guns, but then there are tracks like DARE or Dirty Harry, which are very good, but don't fit the same category, it's a very good record, but with ups and downs. rEdit: Listening to this on vinyl has given a whole new perspective on the album. Songs I used to dislike I rank now much higher

I love every second of this album, the songs have great production, singing and features. It has a constant original atmosphere which brings me right back to my childhood. One of the only albums I listened to as a kid which isn't garbage, an absolute classic

Awesome is the best word to describe this beautiful album. Atmospheric and powerful, I recommand it to anyone who want to enjoy a unique experience. Also, Feel Good Inc. is the best song period.

Many of the subjects covered within this album are quite horrifying, but they don't sound so bad when the album sounds this good. Demon Days has a good blend of hip-hop and rock, neither over-powering or outshining the other. The guests are a hell of lot subtler than later work, but still leave a strong mark on their respective songs.

A major disappointment, give me any songs off of their original over this drivel. It sounds like this is merely the songs that didn't make it onto their first LP. Gone is the bold eclecticism and creativity in song writing (I wish my brother George was here, alas no searing Del tha funkee homosapien part), replaced with generic pop. Little in the way of hip hop, punk and other genres that sounded so good from their first LP.

By far, a much more political, meaningful concept is found on Demon Days than the dreamy, fun elements found on their other album. Produced entirely by Danger Mouse, the production has a slightly more soulful, gentle feel to accompany their usual multi-genre beats. Check out "Feel Good Inc." and "Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head" if you wish to hear the top tracks. However, there are some unlikable tracks on here sure enough, and the best songs only have so much of an upside.
Meaningful and dreamy, Demon Days packs a pop-ish, politically potent punch. Definitely not the album you would want if you were a first time Gorillaz listener, as this is stylistically deviating from most of their works, but if you're looking for just a good album plain and simple, welcome.

For a band that was relatively unknown for awhile and only really had some notoriety from the single "Clint Eastwood" from a couple years ago. It was something unexpected to see some collaboration project from Britian make it so huge in north America, all because of 2 very cool songs (DARE and Feel Good Inc). Once that happened the album itself exploded and for good reason. It's fucking fantastic. rNot only is was Demon Days entirely refreshing in it's time compared to standard top 40s, dance and hip hop, it gave a strong push to darker electro music to follow in the later years which would eventually become more mainstream listening. The whole album itself goes through so many moods, from the somber but catchy "Kids With Guns" to the slower and mellow "Every Planet we Reach is Dead" and arguably the best slow song on the album "El Manana", it hits one of the best dance songs of its time with DARE and probably the single of 2005 Feel Good inc. Great album from start to finish.

This was a good cd with great songs(feel good inc, kids with guns, the strange fire coming out of a monkeys head, last living souls, green world, every planet we reach is dead), but the rest of the songs sucked. I hare white light, its to dang boring, but there is still the creative spark that was in their last album. This one wasnt as good because it didnt have as many good songs, but it still had some really great songs. It would have got a 4 if the good songs were almosst always the song after the bad song, meaning that when one finished you had to listen to crap before the next good one oh well.
