3.5 great | TheManMachine | February 22nd 17 | Wince and shrug your way through the kinda-generics of DJ Khaled yelling about fuckboys and an enjoyable but rather vapid hit single, and eventually you'll come upon the dark and unavoidably alluring actual-culture conqueror hit single "Bad and Boujee"; stick around some more and you'll get to official barnburner "Big On Big" which sets a heavier+preferable precedent for the remainder. Lyrically they barely reside outside the ol auto tune trap-trope bubble and rarely spit a line I'd call compelling, but their triad dynamic and hot potato ad-libs and constant catchiness make ya not care too much. Certainly nice tho that when handed the big-gone-towering beats they can toughen up to them too -- after taking on the staggering "Deadz" with a splendid "UH OOO" hook and rabid back-to-back Takeoff+Offset verses, I'd say a song called "All Ass" is permissible. Especially since they close with a sincere shoutout for all of their considerate lady friends that nears sweetheart status ("Head full of hair but the cat well-groomed": aw!). Notable guest spots include a sheisty-n-shiny Gucci Mane, a coke-liced Travis Scott, and a blue cheese lovin' Lil Uzi Vert.

0.0 | modpack | January 29th 17 | "Bad and Boujee was so promising :'("
lol bad and boujee is close to the worst migos single ever
this thing needs coccoon and more jams in line with their earlier shit
seems they never gonna top hannah montana and handsome and wealthy at this rate.

2.0 poor | ItsMaxwell | February 4th 17 | bad and boujee being a number 1 hit despite being a super below average track by Migos is just another example of how awful meme culture is. After beginning their careers a fan and a defender, I now turn the tables and just am grossed out by all the insincere "lololol they're hilarious" people who bump Migos to make fun of it. And after every rapper imitated the style and flow, Migos seemed to prove either their talents were limited or they made an active career choice to maintain a certain level of medocrity. Either that or Offset is just the worst rapper in history and has proven to be a severe drag on the balancing act that Quavo and Takeoff had on the only good Migos mixtape.

3.2 good | Erwann S. STAFF | August 26th 22 | The 'gos finally release an album and not a mixtape. Not that the listening experience changes a lot, but, culturally, this one had way more impact than the preceding mixtapes - that "mauvais & bourgeois" tune was almost overplayed in 2017 if "Shape of You", "Despacito", and "One Dance" didn't exist. When the three dudes stay afar from features, the record is a boastful exercise in trap, always repetitive, yet constantly bouncy. It also got a track with da weird lil flute - a guaranteed bop ("Get Right Witcha"). Cool shi, but not on par with their more explosive 2013-2015 tapes.

3.0 good | commonist | April 17th 18 | 63/100. Aside from the singles, this album is a wash of bland, generic trap rap. While I understand Migos' role in popularizing that sound, it just wasn't offering anything that I could really get behind. Still decent tho.

3.0 good | dihstyle69 | January 31st 17 | while not a bad album at all, everything follows the same migos' formula, which keeps things away from being as memorable as i wanted it too be. too samey, too by the numbers. i like it, but not to the extent i wanted to. 3+

4.0 excellent | Alabaster Jones | January 31st 17 | After the return to form that was YRN 2, it seems Migos want to keep on their upward trend. And with several excellent singles preceding it's release, including the rousing success of "Bad And Boujee", the likeliness that Culture would continue this upswing was high. It's certainly made good on its promise, because this may be, pound-for-pound, Migos' best effort since 2014. They're a different group now than they were then, though. Tightened performances and a better ear for flows and melodies are the name of the game here, and though they may have lost some of their youthful rawness and energy, that doesn't mean this isn't an entertaining album. The production is pretty excellent for the most part, giving their sound that patented celebratory nature and dishing out some nice bangers along the way. The guest appearances are a bit hit and miss, but Gucci Mane and Lil Uzi Vert do an expectedly great job on their verses. Overall, it may not quite be up to the level of their earlier mixtapes, but it's definitely still a worthwhile project.
