My favourite Sabbath record. I used to loathe Dio's solo work, but he kills on this album. The riffs, the solos, the drums, the bass, everything rules here. While this is technically one of their less original records, it just dominates. The soaring rock n' roll here eclipses everything off the Ozzy Era. Nothing Sabbath would do later could top this gem.

The little man with the big voice had a hell of a job to fill the shoes of the madman but my god did he do it well. Bringing not only a fresh voice and personality to Black Sabbath but a fresh songwriting approach he makes this one of Sabbath's best and in my opinion the best album that Dio ever made. R.I.P Ronnie James Dio

The first record without the full original lineup. Sabbath reinvents themselves with the help of new singer Ronnie James Dio. Some will argue a Sabbath without the four original is not Sabbath. Well, even if that was the case, it would still be a brilliant new band! The title track is legendary, several other songs are classics.

On Black Sabbath’s first outing without iconic frontman Ozzy Osbourne, the band seemed to begin to truly lose itself. I’m not getting into the Ozzy Era Vs. Dio Era Sabbath battle as I personally think the bands material within each of these periods pretty much answers the debate by itself. It does, however, appear that Dio had more of a negative impact on the new recording rather than positive (in respects to the way classic Sabbath had sounded) and ultimately seems to have helped steer the record into a straighter -styled rock n’ roll record. I don’t want to speak ill of the dead, and this is my first true foray outside of the classic-era Sabbath album, but if this is what the future of the band ended up sounding like, I might just do myself the favor and ignore the rest. Really the instrumentation has got to come down to those who actually played those instruments, and while the likes of Ward and Butler were struggling with their own demons and personal issues, I suppose it was Iommi’s show to run by this point. Overall, I give this slightly above average, so a generous three shows up...

Heaven and hell was better than good compared to a not so good never say die they were back on track playing real sabbath type of metal.I like both ozzy and dio type of sabbath it's just a different style and it was probably the right intention for ozzy to go out on his own to make such kick ass albums like blizzard of ozz while sabbath continued to make kick ass albums with dio instead.

The best Sabbath album hands down. Dio is a far superior vocalist than Ozzy ever was and he really shines here and the lyrics are a million times better as well. Besides the obvious improvement in the vocal department the music is superior as well. Iommi really shines and the songwriting is just phenomenal. Sabbath hit the top of their game here and unfortunately never reached it again, but this is still a classic and every metal fan owes it to themselves to listen to this.

Storming in came the tiny man with the tall voice, as he went on to save Black Sabbath with tales of dragons and witches. Heaven and Hell is not only a fantastic comeback, but also remarkably found its place in the top 3 albums this legendary band ever put out. Iommi and company sound full of renewed energy, and nobody really should have had any reason to miss dear Ozzy after this was released.

This is one of Black Sabbaths best albums, if not the best, only paranoid reaches the level of distinction as it does. In my opinion Ozzy is pretty overrated, Dio did a way better job on vocals than Ozzy did. Best songs on this album are: Neon Knights, Lady Evil, Children of the Sea, Heaven and Hell and die young was pretty good too. This album defines Sabbath. This is the better of the two Dio-era Sabbath albums.
