Into the Flood is As Tall As Lion's third release. This EP is only 5 tracks, but the band makes every track count.
The opening track "505" begins with scratchy vocals and a raw steel string acoustic guitar. There is not a semblance of tempo or flow until around halfway through the piece where light drums, bass and strings take over. The title track is begins with synth strings and some light singing. This serene atmosphere is broken distorted guitars, drums, and bass. The timing of this song is not very standard. It seems to alternate between a 6/4 and 4/4. The whole song is easy to listen to, but not overly simplistic. "We're the Ones That Keep You Warm At Night" flows at a moderate tempo. There is an dreamy ambiance created by the singer's light and breathy singing with high reverb guitars. "The Breakers" starts off in a 6/4 tempo with drums, light guitar picking and cello. The song flows well with large changes in dynamics, especially during the last minute. "Blacked Out" is the last track of the EP, and provides a slow closing song for this cd. There is not a great amount of dynamic in this song and might be the weakest on the cd, but by no means is it a horrible song.
Overall, this makes for a nice appetizer, but it would be nice to see a full-length release from As Tall As Lions.
