2.5 average | zwedizhfizh | November 25th 16 | This is their worst album yet, at a straight decline from Reptilians (4.5) with Miracle Mile stuck in between (3.5). This is armchair philosophy vs Reptilians' complex personal emotion and depth. These are tracks destined for the radio and clubs, not for living your life to which previous releases have been much more appropriate for. I want to like this, but all I see is an amazingly talented band losing their soul to faux-philosophical disenfranchised dance beats. So many melodies in these pieces seem just completely out of place in the STRFKR discography. I find it most apparent in Open Your Eyes where classic STRFKR signatures are present but ultimately overridden by standard pop ruminations used tiringly in almost every other radio hit to date, and the signatures are then almost entirely replaced by early-2000's fashion show bait in When I'm With You.rI understand I'm on the fringe and a lot of people just want something nice to dance to, but this fringe is getting smaller and smaller every day and every little loss makes me cringe.rBest track: SatelliterWorst track: When I'm With You (god, the title alone wounds me)
