It would be a somewhat valid argument to say that Pavement never made a "bad" studio album. Slanted & Enchanted is one of indie rock's breakthrough albums, Wowee Zowee is a sprawling, silly record a la the Beatles' The White Album, and Brighten the Corners and Terror Twilight are well-produced, if not musically solid, albums filled with poppy alt.rock. But Crooked, Crooked Rain struck a balance between all of these records, topped-off by Pavement's one and only hit song "Cut Your Hair". CR, CR also contains the greatest number of memorable songs than any other Pavement album: "Silent Kit," "Elevate Me Later," "Stop Breathin," and "Gold Soundz" have catchy hooks and lyrics that could only have come from the genius mind of Stephen Malkmus. Hell, even their parody of Dave Brubeck's "Time Out" ("5/4=Unity") is pretty neat and doesn't come across as a total joke. Just give this album a chance and it is guaranteed to move you--if not by the first track, then hopefully by the time Malkmus and Co. roll around to the majestic guitar jam "Fillmore Jive"."

My favorite Pavement, with more variety and maturity than their sister album"Slanted", but still keeping the fun of Pavement. This is one of those albums that I really liked at first and still like it. At first the songs were muddled together, hard to distinguish because of the flow. I could get rid of "Filmore Jive". A chill album with chill songs for the most part! Such a classic, all the songs feel very nostalgic.

Sweeter than ever, Pavement remain the coolest cats on the block by not even sweating being cool at all. However, far from capturing the optimistic beginnings of Gen X's alternative movement, 'Crooked Rain' is full of cinematic farewells to the burst pipedream: ''It's a brand new era, but it came too late" sighs Malkmus sadly on 'Newark Wilder.'

this album is pretty much everything that i was looking for in a rock album. yeah it rocks, and is super catchy, but the lazy and seemingly effortless vocals delivered by malkmus make this ultimate slacker chill out album. i also cant get enough of how the guitars on this album seem to match the laziness of malkmus's voice, they just sound so perfect together.
