3.0 good | Alabaster Jones | October 3rd 16 | Covenant really hit it big after the release of Sequencer, and their penchant for a more readily listenable EBM sound plays no small part in that. However, one cannot help but feel as if something was lost in translation from their debut, Dreams Of A Cryotank. That's not to say this material is less well-written; if anything, it's even better songwriting. Yet, it's the execution that leaves a lot to be desired. The personality and intrigue that made their debut a captivating listen is distilled here, and while tracks like "Stalker" and "Storm" are very good, a lot of the stuff here feels somewhat emotionless and almost shallow. It doesn't have the same sense of passion or urgency, is basically what I'm trying to say. All of this said, this was still only their second full-length, and the best work from the group was yet to come, where they kept the songwriting chops heard here and regained some of that fire that made their early stuff so great.

It still sounds fresh because it is edgy, new (in its time), and experimental. At the same time it is true to the club sound.
It is to their tribute that Covenant managed to mix these two ingredients together to such effect. One or two tracks (slowmotion, storm) have dated, but in general, the album is a classic.
