The first album to feature the mighty Bruce Dickinson on vocals, The Number of the Beast is an epic Metal ride for all who claim to be fans of the genre. The riffs are imaginative, the bass is second to none, the solos are gold, and the vocals wail. The title track and 'Run to the Hills' are some of Maiden's finest work, and who can leave out one of the all-time greatest songs ever written, the amazing 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'.

As strong as Powerslave might be, Number of the Beast is the finest definition of the classic Maiden era. Killer riffs, fantastic solos, galloping bass lines, a wicked first performance by Dickinson and very solid last one by Burr create an album that is still as powerful and exciting today as it was nearly 30 years ago. And yeah, Hallowed Be Thy Name.

A simply beautiful blend of slick guitar work, crack drumming, thundrous bass and larger-than-life vocals that make for a smashing album. My personal favourite as it truly showcases the brilliant vocal talents of Paul Di'Anno's successor Bruce Dickinson as well as featuring some of my favourite Maiden tracks. An absolute classic and BOO to anyone who says differently.

Without a doubt my favorite classic metal album of all time. If The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills won't get you hooked, then the epic closer Hallowed be thy Name surely will. Honorable mention to 22 Acacia Avenue and Invaders for getting me into bass.
P.S. The Dream Theater cover of this is an abomination.

I'm really happy that I decided to download this. I never really experienced this kind of metal before. Bruce has a good voice but it can get a little bit irratating. As for the guitar I realize what they mean by 'Iron Maiden riffs'. The best songs are Gangland, #otB, Run to the Hills and the epic Hallowed Be Thy Name. That song is just perfect. Most certainly a great pick-up.

This rating is odd. Some brilliant songs, alot of filler. If I were to pick up this CD I would be using the skip button too much; hence the rating. Hallowed Be Thy Name is the best song of Maiden's career though.

Regardless how cliched it is this album is Maiden's best. Despite a poor opener in 'Invaders' the album redeems itself with some of the bands best songs in 'Run to the Hills' and the title track. Plus some overlooked ones in the brilliant 'The Prisoner' and 'Children of the Damned'. Obviously the crown jewel in not just this album but possibly the bands career is 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' one of the best metal songs of all time.

My favorite Metal album. The first one Iron Maiden did with their new vocalist, Bruce Dickinson, who took the band to newer heights. The album is essential in every music collection, and specially in every Metal collection. The most awesome of the songs are Hallowed Be Thy Name, 22 Acacia Avenue and The Prisoner.

Next to British Steel, Number of the Beast is the definitive NWOBHM album. There are several timeless Maiden classics on here that are pretty much mandatory at any Maiden concert. Otherwise a playthrough constitutes results of abundant happiness and satisfaction at pure, original and unabated genius. Without this album, metal today wouldn't exist.

Iron Maiden's first album, with legendary vocalist Bruce Dickinson, is one of the most well-known and revered heavy metal albums. The one album bands after it strived to surpass, the album that set the mark so high. But, the record is also not without it's flaws, the largest of which is a lack of great content. Songs like the title track and the awe-inspiring Hallowed Be Thy Name seem to shadow the others in their greatness. Thus, the labum almost feels incomplete, as if the band could have done something more. None the less a great album, but just shy of being another Powerslave.

'Number Of the Beast' is a pretty sweet album. There are some great tunes on here like 'Invaders', 'Children Of The Damned', 'Number Of The Beast' and, of course, the truely epic all time classic that is 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'. But there are a few numbers that let the side down, most notably the back-to-back pairing of 'Gangland' and 'Total Eclipse', both of which are fillers of the first order. I don't think that this is the strongest Maiden album, but it's a very good effort.

Dickinson's highly acclaimed first album with Iron Maiden lacks much of what made the band's first two efforts interesting and great. While there are hints of stronger instrumental, lyrical and vocal work, none of it really prevails save for "Run to the Hills." And unfortunately, one borderline classic track doesn't make an entire album amazing.

Ah, number of the beast- where do I start?
10 years older than myself, but still (in my opinion) bang up to date. The first album to feature Bruce, and the last to feature Clive Burr- every genre has a defining band, for metal it is Maiden; Every band has a defining album, for Maiden it is Number of the beast; Every album has a Defining song, For Number of the beast, it is Hallowed be thy name.
This is not just a metal album, this is THE metal album. Whenever I listen to this album, I get shivers- If you do not have this album yet, BUY IT, that's right, BUY IT WITH MONEY. Downloading this album for free will not cut it, BUY THE 1998 REMASTERED EDITION CD, it's worth 20 times its weight in saffron, yet you can buy it for somewhere in the reigion of £6-£15 (you do the conversion).
Best song: Hallowed be thy name
Worst song: To say there's a worst song on this album would be blasphemy.

A classic metal masterpiece. On par with Metallica's Ride the Lightning which came a year or 2 afterwards.. Every song on the album (tho thats not many) is good if not amazing. I cant believe the reviewer does not lik Run to the Hills, it's one of maiden's best songs ever, different yes but its awesome!!! Havent heard Total Eclipse yet tho.. Without doubt the greatest metal album made at the time... cant wait for new album!

This is the album that started me into Maiden. I had been listening to some random songs for a bit but this is the first album I owned by them. I was stunned. I Had never heard anything like this before when i was my 14 year old self. It was absolutely fast epic and as well beautiful. Its an essential maiden album as well as an essential metal album through and through. My fave tracks? Hallowed be Thy name, Number of the Beast, The prisonger, Run to The hills, Gangland, 22 acacia avenue.

My favorite metal album of all time. Ass-kickers like Invaders and The Number of the Beast bring out some great riffs while Bruce Dickinson starts his career in Maiden with great vocals like on 22 Acacia Avenue and Run to the Hills. To bring it all to a close is my favorite metal song, if not favorite song ever, Hallowed be thy Name. This song is in a sense, the perfect metal song and I think many would agree.

This 2.5 is a mistake. My computer was being overtly slow, and in an attempt to get the loading process over quickly I mistakenly gave this masterpiece a 2.5 rating. It is one of the five albums I truly consider classic, flawless, impecable and, at least in my case, life changing. Yes I know I'm being a little too dramatic, and pompous, but hell, its the truth and what can I do about it. I'll write a full length review for this when I can.

Consistency can ruin a lot of things that would otherwise be awesome. So of course it's a good thing that most of Iron Maiden's albums are very consistent, with hardly any dull moments. This is the album that launched the golden years for Maiden, and it's also the album that put the band on top of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. So yes, please buy it.
