i have heard all maiden records form start to the end... but somehow nothing.. i mean nothing comes close to this.. the whole feel and the guitar work by smith/Murray... lay down structured paths into each song.. i heard that they don't pay it live as its too technical and hard to pay on stage.

With their 6th album, Iron Maiden changed their style slightly, leaning towards an experimental side of things, something they would eleborate further on Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Guitar and bass synths were added, giving their sound a futuristic touch, which coincides with the album's theme perfectly. The synths gave a new edge to Maiden signature sound, while not dominating the music.
Opener 'Caught Somewhere in Time' applies this new feature perfectly, having guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith displaying one of their best dual guitar harmonizations, something that Maiden has become known for. Overall, Somewhere in Time has a refreshing sound and contains often overlooked classics such as 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner', and 'Stranger in a Strange Land'. Also a highlight is the accessible 'Wasted Years'. Harris' epic 'Alexander the Great' is also strong, be it not so much lyrically as instrumentally. Somewhere in Time is often overlooked next to albums such as Number of the Beast and Powerslave, but is actually one of Maiden's finest, and deserves to be in anyone's collection.

This is probably one of Iron Maidens most underrated albums, a lot of people don't even know it exists! That really pisses me off. The two songs released as singles are both great, but so is the rest of the album! Bruce Dickinsons vocals really shine on Sea of Madness. There are some seriously underrated tracks on here including loneliness of the long distance runner, Deja Vu. This is one of Iron Maidens best albums, it shouldnt be forgotten. Personally I liked Stranger in a strange land the best. This is one album no Iron Maiden fan should be without.

Precise drums, breathtaking bass, strikingly good dueling lead guitars, synths everywhere. Made in '86, this could be perfectly mistaken for an album that's yet to be released. While listening to this, I trully let myself get caught somewhere in time, feeling as if future, past and present were combined into a sole musical masterpiece.

One of the lesser albums of Iron Maiden from the 80's for me. It's not bad (Iron Maiden never made a bad album in my opinion), but a few songs on here are stretched out too much and are too long, like Heaven Can Wait. Well, then the positive things. The use of synthesizers is perfect here, it gives the album a futuristic, dreamy atmosphere (which makes the album good to relax/sleep to). And most of all: it doesn't sound commercial (like on Turbo by Judas Priest). Also, Bruce Dickinson's singing is (in my opinion) at it's best here and there are some very enjoyable melodies.

After years of releasing albums that were all synth-free and the band even taking an anti-synth stance on music, Iron Maiden finally gave in. Their first synth effort, however, is one of the band's best albums. Somewhere In Time gives fans the Iron Maiden sound they always know plus synths to complement the music and push it further, rather than basing their whole sound off of them. Caught Somewhere In Time is quite possibly the band's best opening song to an album (bar Aces High), while Sea of Madness and Stranger In A Strange Land hold up to any other Maiden tracks. The big thing on this album is the largely futuristic sound, as shown by the incredibly underrated track Deja Vu. One of Iron Maiden's finest moments, Somewhere In Time is not to be missed.

This is, without any doubt, my favorite Maiden album. I know most people would not agree with me on this, but the futuristic feel of the album along with the great songwriting make this one of the greatest metal albums of all time. The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner, my favorite track on the album, is sorely lacking from Maiden's live performances...

Iron Maiden taking a step into a more progressive sound than before, making their strongest album since The Number of the Beast (not taking Live after Death into account). First being thrown right into the title track, Caught Somewhere in Time, and forwarding on to a journey through time and space with gallopping basslines and futuristic, tight riffs and solos. Wasted Years, Stranger in a Strange Land and Alexander the Great has some amazing guitarwork, and are recommendable for anyone who especially enjoys Adrian Smiths songwriting.

Somewhere In Time is in my opinion one of Maiden's best records. I really love all these songs, from Caught Somewhere In Time to Alexander The Great. You only find amazing tracks here however my favourite songs are the title track, Wasted Years (amazing solo by Adrian Smith), Sea Of Madness, Stranger In A Strange Land and Deja Vu. An absolute classic. UP THE IRONS!!!!

Iron Maiden reaches new heights with this awesome album. Even though it doesn't have as many hit songs as albums like The Number of the Beast, after a few listens it shapes out to be a complex and multicolored listen. Every song has it's place on the album, and it has basically no weak moments. A must-have for any Maiden fan.

Maiden's most underrated album, and my second favourite by them. Every song, from epic opener caught somewhere in time to the winding closer Alexander the great(even De-ja vu) is fantastic. It is executed gracefully and the album features some tasteful experimentation with synthesisers

'Somewhere in Time' sandwiches the speed and power of the previous 'Powerslave' with the prog atmospherics of the succsessive 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son'. This album fires on all cylinders, with classic after classic roaring from the speakers, including 'Wasted Years', 'Heaven Can Wait' and 'Alexander The Great'. In my opinion, this LP is everything that was ever great about Maiden on one CD, and probably my favorite Maiden album overall... That said, however, if you are new to Iron Maiden and shopping about for a good entry point, then 'Somewhere In Time' isn't your best choice because it's lengthy and quite a bit more obtuse than the other albums.

Somewhere In Time differs very noticeably from its predecessors, but the results here, unlike Judas Priest's Turbo effort, are debatably improved in many spots. The incorporation of synthesizers is rather welcoming since we get a few moments of good atmosphere with a smoother overall sound. All it's really missing, however, are more excellent tracks like "Sea of Madness" and "Alexander the Great" to propel it up alongside Powerslave.

A damn fine outing from a ridiculously influential band. Iron Maiden's output up to this point continues to be hard-hitting and consistently solid, with little changing to the formula for 1986's Somewhere In Time. With the additional of keys/synths to the band's music, they truly embraced the 80's full-force, but it fit the melodies of their music perfectly.

Somewhere in Time is somewhat different from their previous albums such as Number of the Beast and Powerslave. First of all, the overall subject is different. While there is a song about a great hero, Alexander the Great, the album's overall theme is the future. It's not just the lyrics that suggest this subject. In fact, the lyrics only approach this theme in the opening track, "Caught Somewhere in Time". What really gives the album a futuristic mood is the howling guitar work laid down by Adrian Smith and Dave Murray. Many songs start out with high-pitched riffs, accompanied by Steve Harris' superb bass work. Overall, this is a great addition to the family of Maiden albums. Enjoy.
