A sub-par release that technically can't be called a Velvet Underground recording. "Crash" sounds like an early version of the Beatles' "Martha My Dear", but stupider.
This was a VU release that did not have a single original member, including Lou Reed. After White Light / White Heat, Reed replaced John Cale with Doug Yule in order to pursue a softer, more mainstream-appealing sound. The next two albums were solid, but different - Very soft and guitar-hook oriented. When Reed disbanded VU after Loaded, Doug Yule managed to somehow retain license to record as VU - And that's what we have here. I don't think it can truly be called a VU album outside of legality.
