Not as bad as people usually say. Yes, it's not really a Velvet Underground album, but it's decent enough and continues the pop sound the Velvet Underground had been using since their third album.

There's nothing wrong with this record, musically speaking. But there's nothing right with it either. As they say, Velvet Underground by name. Doug Yule's heart might have been in the right place, it's none the wiser from John Cale or Lou Reed's solo albums at this point. But, rightfully so, it's rare and been buried in the catacombs of pop music history. It's an insult to what Lou Reed, John Cale, Maureen Tucker and Sterling Morrison started... And for that, there's nothing worth hearing here.

This was a VU release that did not have a single original member, including Lou Reed. After White Light / White Heat, Reed replaced John Cale with Doug Yule in order to pursue a softer, more mainstream-appealing sound. The next two albums were solid, but different - Very soft and guitar-hook oriented. When Reed disbanded VU after Loaded, Doug Yule managed to somehow retain license to record as VU - And that's what we have here. I don't think it can truly be called a VU album outside of legality.
