The more I tuned in, the more it wavered -- what was initially despicably drowsy and tepid r&b using syrupy understatements as whitewash turned into gravitating towards a few of the particularly gratifying hooks became somewhat-smitten with their slo-mo sensual+emotional sincerity, the trap-n-bass-inflected ethereality for beats, and the falsettos qualified at melting heart. "Try / Effortless" at track 3 is when they start to do just that / and make it seem so, "Do It Well" is perhaps when they do it the well-est, "Hallucinations" is a dream on a cloud; on the whole however it heavily recalls the ol' drowsy-n-tepid thing with a dash of cringe to boot. The soulful old-style croon vox intermixed with not-so-old-style propositions are a hoot, too: "fuck with me now" as a come-on, the straight-up proposal that sleeping with him will make her feel better about all his wrongdoings, opting not to pull out but eager to go in+out. Name of the one about being eager to go in+out: "In+Out".

Of all the OVO Sound signees, dvsn is the project that is the true highlight of discovery and collaboration. It helps that producer Nineteen85 is a part of this duo, but the mysterious nature of whom the singer is (especially in the age of the internet/social media) add to the intrigue and praise this album deserves. Far from being generic, everyday R&B; there's a real connection between artist and listener because of its nostalgic old school influence that also feels fresh.

the content and lyrics always run around the same idea and it can defin get stale for some people but thanks to passionate, powerful vocals and beautiful melodies, things never get boring and this is one of the most interesting r&b debuts in a while. definitely the best one coming out from ovo imo but they still miss something unique to distance themselves from the other members of the group. the biggest issue ovo is facing right now, actually. 3.5-

Cringey as hell. Some of the lyrics on this project are so painfully bad I had to take my headphones out to collect myself before continuing. Sure, it sounds alright but this kind of minimalistic is so overdone at this point that you've heard all of this before and frankly, it's been done better.
