4.0 excellent | Gene Gol-Jonsson CONTRIBUTOR | May 4th 22 | In the past, Black Mountain's creative trajectory has been taking them from a steady 70s pastiche to a balanced hybrid to a fully modernised sound, but now they seem to have hit a point they are most comfortable with. 'IV' is a lot like its preceding album, in that it is much more colourful, accessible, and melodic than Black Mountain's work before 'Wilderness Heart'. A little polishing and softening of the sound here and there, but certainly not to the detriment of the album overall.

4.0 excellent | John L | April 4th 16 | pretty hard jams right here. the synths are so right and some of the riffs are rock hard. fave tracks: cemetery breeding, mothers of the sun, space to bakersfield, and defector.

4.0 excellent | Underflow | April 1st 16 | Black Mountain consolidates its sound from three fairly different full-lengths while adding the much-needed textural overhaul of futuristic synthesizer. The result is the band's best album to date: an ambitious, rocking affair that's more engaged and more ambitious than anything else under the band's belt.
