Zel still has a ways to go before he reaches this status in the genre, but in a lot of ways he's comparable to another certain Curry that has taken his respective profession by storm with what he's been able to accomplish. Like Steph, Denzel has a game that is rapid, fluid, and wholly entertaining and captivating. His flow is impeccable, and lyrically his blunt, yet clever wordplay paints a vivid picture of all the events and feelings he relates. The hooks here are hard hitting and catchy as well. Also like Steph, Denzel has a marvelous supporting cast. Ronnie J, FNZ, Lino Martinez, and even $uicide Boy$ make excellent contributions to the project through their psychedelia-influenced trap production. Rick Ross and Joey Bada$$ show up and drop a couple of swell verses as well, backing Zel up wonderfully. If there's one misstep to be found, it's on "This Life", which isn't really up to par with the other tracks here. Ultimately, on Imperial, Denzel Curry shows why you should be listening to him if you're a fan of hard-hitting, energetic hip-hop.

easily one of the best hip hop projects so far this year. hard-hitting and raw but ralways fun and catchy, there's no reason for you to skip this one. if all you want ris some bangers, grab this! there's still room for improvement tho, and that's a rgood thing. 4

More focused than his first one, more conscious and less boastful than ZUU, less atmospheric and more hard-hitting than TA13OO. Some of the songs here are the epitome of "Denzel going apeshit" (the first two tracks), but he already displays his more atmospheric side (the second half).

This one got me really pumped in the beginning, but failed to convince me. The opener is merciless, and the verse is super jammy, but the chorus kinda sucks in comparison - an omen for what will follow. Track 2 is also a jam with an interesting prod, and again a chorus that kinda sucks. The run from 3-7 goes from ok to annoying (6 is kinda cool though). The prods are often good, but ruined by annoying choruses or back vocals, and Denzel's delivery instead of saving it all sometimes adds to the mess. Then the record calms down and 8-10 are much more relaxed and sort of jammy I guess? Get the record a couple extra points up to a 3.05
