Matt Pike's guitar genius extends far beyond his work with Sleep, a point proven by Death Is This Communion. With droning, stoned compositions, harsh vocals, and a pummeling sense of rhythm, High on Fire manage to craft mythological songs of war. rI highly recommend it to people into stoner metal.

I can't believe I'm liking this as much as I am. Crusty, sludgy riffs and massive song structures, High on Fire have turned their completely psychedelic style into something heavy and nigh progressive. This is truly metal, truly awesome.

I am calling most metal albums generic, well, they are...I have a very hard time explaining why this is not at all generic given that on paper it does not have something special; on the contrary, this is brilliant, very engaging, I love it. It feels like the Champions League, some of goals seem so simply built that anyone could potentially do it but in fact you need huge player and team quality to pull it off. Same with this album, it all feels just naturally right. One thing I do see strange, I feel that vocals are not used as much as on other albums, even leaving out the interludes . Is it a calculated scheme to make us crave for more and more..Last thing, I would give this an even higher rating if it wasn't for 'Ethereal', only 7 minutes in the album slightly underwhelming.

DiTC is what I'm talking about. The groove filled with those whipping riffs hit my weak spot. The
vocal delivery on that one is amazing too. The drum and guitar song interludes are intense and
fitting to the whole song and just give the enough prog vibe I also enjoy on these guys.
yesyesyes...I've got a new favorite band.

This is really damn good... like Mastodon without the often-extraneous progressive stylings. Fury Whip is all dark
age riffs and brainswamping sludge... perfect music for smoking cheap weed out of a plexiglass bong.
