3.5 great | Risodo | April 3rd 18 | The second "big" release of Magrudergrind is a drop in quality and sound output compared to their predecessor. With a clear influence in the genre, the band was expected to maintain the aggressiveness and their characteristic brand. But that is not what happened here. The album is far from being bad, but it is worth listening only a few times and then trowing in the bottom of the chest to listen again only in the future. Warm and ordinary, nothing exciting.

3.0 good | zaruyache | February 15th 16 | With no political samples and a less "fun" sound quality that's not heavy or crunchy enough to be "Rotten Sound" level brutal, Magrudergrind's "II" is a pretty OK grind/power violence record, but not much more. What personality their previous album had has been scrubbed away in favor of a more "no frills" approach to grind. The result is a much less fun record that simply doesn't sound vicious enough to warrant the change in sound in the first place. It's OK grind, but unfortunately not much more. :-(

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | February 15th 16 | Though not quite as blisteringly fast or raw as their self-titled record, Magrudergrind's third full-length stick packs a mean punch as it delivers some tastefully spirited and venomous grindcore/powerviolence. The first seven tracks are decent enough, but the stretch of eight tracks from "Hara-Kiri" to closer "Pharmacide" really takes things up a notch, wonderfully juxtaposing speedy, impassioned grind blasts with slower, pummeling hardcore. While it might not sound like much in terms of originality, II does sound royally angry and fiery, due in no small part to the encompassing production by Converge's own Kurt Ballou. It's a short record, clocking in at twenty-three minutes, but this means no song overstays it's welcome. Once an idea is finished cooking, it's on to the next. This also allows the album great replayability as well. In short, a six-year drought in the Magrudergrind discography comes to a well-deserved halt with this very concise album.

3.5 great | grandfather | January 28th 16 | Not as good as the s/t, slower than the s/t, but fun as hell. Muddier production, but it works.
Sounds better than the Cult Leader record Ballou produced last year at least.
