My initial impression of this album was that none of these songs excited me as the highlights from the first three albums and seemed to be of a slightly lesser grade. However, this may be a case where the value of whole shouldn?t be judged solely on the sum of its parts. In retrospect, I believe EDGE OF THORNS does deserve a badge of excellence. It?s a well-balanced collection of songs that exemplifies creative growth and has only grown more important and meaningful to me through time.

Savatage are such an underrated band. Edge of Thorns is the best example of this. Incredible songwriting, and one of the most impressive metal vocal performances I've ever heard. It grasps you and holds you all the way, from the powerfull title track to the melancholic Sleep. A true classic.

My favorite, this along with Gutter Ballet and Hall of the Mountain King are their best albums in my opinion. "Degrees of Sanity" is just mesmerizing! Amazing riffs and solos through the whole album

In my opinion Edge of Thorns, Gutter Ballet and Hall of the Mountain King are Savatage best records. The title track is amazing. Degrees of Sanity and Damien are also great songs.
